In 2020, Go Young Wook had previously opened a social media account, stating, “I’ve spent nearly nine years in isolation and can’t continue like this. I want to cautiously start communicating with the world again.” However, due to a backlash, he closed the account.

In December 2013, he was sentenced to two years and six months in prison and was ordered to wear an electronic ankle monitor for three years, becoming the first celebrity in South Korea to receive this order. He was released in July 2015 and has not resumed any broadcasting activities since.
