K-netizens react to Kyoungyoon's departure from DKZ following the JMS cult controversy

DKZ's now former member, Kyoungyoon, has officially departed from the group, marking a significant development about five months after the controversy surrounding his family's alleged connections to the JMS cult.

On August 7, KST, Dongyo Entertainment conveyed an update through their official fan cafe regarding Kyoungyoon's hiatus, which began in April to facilitate his treatment for anxiety and sociophobia. The statement noted a considerable improvement in Kyoungyoon's condition.

However, following discussions concerning his future involvement with the group, a collective decision was reached for him to bid farewell to DKZ and subsequently fulfill his mandatory military service within the upcoming year.

Accompanying this announcement was a handwritten letter from Kyoungyoon himself.

In the letter, he reached out to the fans, apologizing to those who felt taken aback or let down by the earlier controversy that had transpired within the year.

He wrote, "I spent time thinking a lot over the past five months. After thinking about the best choice for all the people I care about, I came to the conclusion that I should let DKZ's Kyoungyoon go. I hope the fans will understand my choice," he wrote. "I don't want to regret my choice, even thinking of the remaining members. I will keep these feelings in my heart in the future. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for loving and supporting DKZ's Kyoungyoon."

Korean netizens hope Kyoungyoon has safely left KMS and that he has a brighter future.

They commented, "I hope he safely left the cult," "Wow," "Heol," "I hope he lives a good life after he leaves the religion," "Wow," "Oh no, I wonder if they weren't able to resolve things well," "I see," "Why did he leave now? He should have left the group a long time ago," "His parents tried to evangelize the members to KMS...so it's only correct for him to leave the group," "He seemed like a good kid...it was just his religion...I hope he does well somewhere else," "It doesn't matter about how things are now because his image declined so much...it must have been a heartbreaking decision," "I really hope he left the cult," "I don't think he left the cult. I think he chose KMS over DKZ," and "So, I guess this is the conclusion of this incident."

The fact that they're all leaving faux sympathy by saying things like "I hope he left the cult" is exactly why he had to leave. Their cruelty was going to follow him until he left, public opinion had already been swayed by these cruel reactions. It is not lost on my how ironic it is that K-netizens address bullying as such a major issue in their country when bullying is in fact the knee-jerk reaction of the general population when idols don't have a squeaky clean background or reputation. This young man was a CHILD when his family was a part of that cult, but rather than look at him as a victim they paint him to be a monster as well. Shame on all of them, their sympathies are laced with the same venom directed at him from the very beginning.
