"Already?" K-netizens shocked after realizing Seungri will be released from prison in just two months

AKP STAFF

There are fewer than 100 days remaining until former Big Bang member Seungri is released from prison.

Seungri, who has caused much stir internationally beyond Korea when his criminal charges were revealed, will be released from prison in February of 2023.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court of South Korea finalized a sentence of 1.5 years in prison for Seungri. Previously, Seungri was indicted for a total of 9 criminal charges in January of 2020, including solicitation of illegal prostitution, illegal overseas gambling, the spread of illegally filmed sexual content, embezzlement, threatening, and assault. During his initial military court trial, Seungri was found guilty of all 9 charges and was sentenced to 3 years in prison. However, after filing an appeal, the High Military Court reduced his sentence to 1.5 years.

After Seungri was discharged from the military on June 9 of this year, he was transferred to a civilian prison. Netizens were outraged because media outlets at the time were reporting that Seungri would be released from prison in only 8 months.

It has now been about six months since the transfer, and Seungri awaits his release in February 2023.

As time passes quickly, many Korean netizens are taken aback to realize that there are only two months left until Seungri's release and are worried that he might resume his activities on YouTube.

Netizens commented their concerns, saying, "I guess we'll see him on YouTube now," "He's going to turn to YouTube," "Geez," "Please don't return to YouTube I don't want to see you at all," "what?" "He's being released in just two more months?" "This is so crazy," "We'll definitely see him on YouTube," "I don't care if he's released or not," "How is he being released already?" and "He's going to return to that underworld."

The way the articles are worded makes his crimes sound so much more serious than they are. The amount of money supposedly embezzled wasn't that much from what I remember reading and if someone heard another amount, please provide a link to it. If read in detail, it's obvious the courts were really trying hard to convict him of something. They convicted him of solicitation of prostitution because he admitted he had sex with a prostitute even though he said he didn't know she was a prostitute and the prostitute even said she was hired by someone else. Those people who hired her even admitted they did so without his knowledge or input. Threatening? Is that the issue in the club where the two victims even said they were the ones making trouble? Yeah. Technically, he violated the law (he did gamble overseas, some money was misallocated and he did have sex with a prostitute) and they got him for that. However, the extent to which he did doesn't warrant a life sentence and was probably worth what he served. Anyways, I doubt he'll ever be in the public eye again. Too many people hate him just because they want to. Nobody will want to do business with him either. Too risky.
