RM - his indispensable work in and for BTS

BTS leader RM, currently with 6.1 million monthly listeners, is the most listened to Korean solo act on Spotify. His Sophomore album 'mono.' reached the most iTunes Number 1s for any Korean artist and with his recent collab 'Seoul Town Road' he set new Spotify debut records for Korean solo artists.

RM is not only breaking records on his own, but also with his group 'BTS', and there he has a role of utmost importance. As a songwriter, composer, and producer, he has been shaping BTS' music since the beginning.

Currently, he has 133 songs registered under his name on KOMCA -the Korean Music Copyright Association- and is already the idol with the fourth most song credits, and not even all of his (so-far) written songs are registered on the Korean site. Before writing for his band RM wrote songs for his ex label-mates, starting in 2010 with 2AM's 'Love U Hate U' and two songs for the group 'GLAM'.

When BTS debuted in 2013 with their single 'No More Dream', RM talked about how he didn't have any dreams during school and how that inspired the song. On the debut album '2 Cool 4 Skool', he was involved in writing every song but the album's interlude. Since then he has been involved in every album and is the only band member who has written every single or promoted song.

2018 was the year BTS rose to even more fame all around the globe; their album 'Love Yourself Tear' became #1 on the Billboard Top 200 album charts. Again RM was the only band member involved with every song on this album and the only one involved in the single 'Fake Love', which became their first Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit. 'Fake Love' is also the most-streamed Korean song on the streaming service Spotify.

It does not stop there for RM. He was also the only one involved in writing all songs on BTS' most recent Number 1 album 'Map of the Soul: Persona', which he opened with the intro 'Persona'. The song gained inspiration from the theories of the psychologist Jung and was repeatedly praised for his lyrics and meaning.

RM writes not only for groups or himself but also writes with his fellow band members. He has been a part of writing solo songs for every member except fellow rapper Suga. For 'Singularity' (a solo song performed by member 'V') RM wrote all the lyrics in one sitting a few days after being released from the hospital due to surgery.

So, as an accomplished writer and composer but also as a producer who has produced several songs for himself, BTS and more, RM has made himself a key member in BTS' discography (psst, he has been starting work as a recording engineer as well). His golden work is all over their songs.

We're incredibly lucky to have RM. Without him there would be no BTS, it's as simple as that. He's an incredible leader and a very talented artist.

I have a huge amount of respect for him, he didn't have it easy in the beginning with the constant insults regarding his appearance. Not to mention people dragging him for going from underground rapper to idol. I'm so glad he's finally being recognised for how talented he is. He kept going to prove his worth and talent.

Seoul from Mono was one of my favourite songs from last year. I never tire of listening to it, it's a beautiful song. It may be clear to everyone that Jimin is my boy, he got me in to BTS. My interest in RM is what hooked me after seeing the Danger video!

ALSO HE'S SO GOOD LOOKING, I DON'T EVEN CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS. 😍

He was the first member I noticed. I love listening to him. I watch his vlives because everything he says is interesting and meaningful - no matter if he's talking about his work, art, traveling, his opinions... I'm respecting him so much because starting and being with bts was very difficult at the beginning and even though he's so young, he's very mature.
