On July 21, TWICE performed in front of a crowd of 15,000 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. It appears a journalist from NJ.com didn't have a good time at the concert as he called it "a big fluffy flop."
Some excerpts from the article:
“not the case for every commercial juggernaut that conquers Korean charts”.
“... performance was light on passion, or any exceeding talent that would warrant 2.5 billion views on YouTube.”
“As the deafening set rolled on, it became apparent that only two or three of women — the group’s most outgoing member, Nayeon; the group’s official “leader” and consummate belter, Jihyo; and sometimes Jeongyeon — could actually hold a tune when not supported by the backing track that blared from the PA. The rest of the group just passively lip-synced along,”
“...Beyond the group’s lead dancer, Momo — who, to her credit, was nearly flawless — it was obvious none of the other women were natural dancers...One could almost feel them counting “ five-six-seven-eight.””
“...urged the crowd to scream and incessantly asked if the audience liked the song they just sang”
“Perhaps it’s a cultural difference, the women being naturally more reserved, or instructed to exude a sort of glazed-over pageant poise at all moments. Whatever the case, this group felt animatronic.”
“TWICE...the band is supposed to charm fans through both its music and visuals.
Both need work.”
