Reporter Kang Kyung Yoon Of Chatroom Case Talks About Hearing Victims’ Testimonies

On March 14, SBS funE reporter Kang Kyung Yoon was invited to talk on the SBS radio show “Lee Jae Ik’s Politics Show.”

Kang Kyung Yoon is the reporter who released the initial reports on Kakaotalk chatrooms between male celebrities that shared illegal hidden camera footage and discussed the sexual assault and objectification of women.

She has previously spoken out on why she felt the need to report on this case as a female reporter and has also spoken out strongly against speculating about the identities of the female victims in the case.

On the radio show, Kang Kyung Yoon said that she had met with four or five victims and said, “Not only were they clearly victimized, but they were afraid that their personal details would be revealed and couldn’t file a complaint. They were also afraid that the men would become angry with them and circulate the footage, so they had to resort to pleading with them. They begged [Jung Joon Young] to properly delete the footage.”

She continued, “An ordinary person might have felt self-conscious at such a request, but Jung Joon Young just asked his friend, to whom he had already sent the footage, to send it to him again. He would say, ‘Send the video again. [The girl] erased it and left. Get it again.'”

Kang Kyung Yoon also said that to her, it seemed like Jung Joon Young was thinking of these crimes as a game. She said, “The victims were in their early twenties at the time of the incidents. I shed tears when I heard their testimonies.”

This is so depressing. Can you imagine having to go through something like this then when the media finally sheds light to this then you read people still supporting these scumbags “oppa don’t give up” “we will support you no matter what”

How horrible it must be to know that such videos of you - to which you have given no consent - are just circling around like this. To have absolutely no control of whom this is sent to, who is going to see the video. If such a video is sent to only one wrong person, you're never gonna get rid of it again..

And to constantly live in fear of being exposed, not being able to achieve justice and make the perpetrators bear the consequences for their crimes because you are afraid of being shamed by the public - for being a victim.

I would have cried, too, if I had heard those testimonies.

I feel so sorry for the victims :(
