K-Pop idols love to pay homage to the groups that have paved the way before them as an expression of respect and as a token of appreciation to fans! Lucky for us, we get to enjoy an awesome performance in addition to hearing a unique rendition of our all-time favorite songs of another group! Of the songs that idols choose to cover, here are some of the most commonly covered K-Pop songs:
5. Gee by Girls' Generation
Here's a prime example of G-Friend and TWICE - two distinct girl groups - simultaneously covering the legendary Girls' Generation track, "Gee". This song is a staple K-Pop song that's paved the way for the sound of K-Pop for years to come and it's no surprise that so many artists have chosen to cover it. Other groups that have covered it include Red Velvet, Younha, and "Boys' Generation". If you don't know that last one- look it up!
4. Really Really by WINNER
WINNER's hot track this year was "Really Really" and other groups definitely picked up on that fact by paying their respects with their own renditions of the song. The ladies of Dream Catcher took their feminine voices to the next level on this cover! Other covers of WINNER's catchy hit include TWICE and Rose of Black Pink.
3. U-Go-Girl by Lee Hyori
If a girl group debuts, you can pretty much bet your bottom dollar they'll perform Lee Hyori's iconic "U-Go-Girl" at some showcase or another. An ultra bubblegum pop classic, "U-Go-Girl" is the ultimate test of every girl group's ability to show off their uniqueness and individual charms. Even Girls' Generation covered this song at one point!
2. Mirotic by TVXQ!
MONSTA X, BAP, Cosmic Girls, and Hongki are just a few of the artists that have covered TVXQ's "Mirotic". This sexy and sleek song always gets chosen by male groups looking to make the switch into a more mature concept.
1. Coming of Age Ceremony by Park Ji Yoon
Many fans know of the infamous dance cover of Park Ji Yoon's iconic hit "Coming of Age Ceremony" done by BTS' Jungkook and Jimin. However, they aren't the only idols to take to make this song a sexy hit! Above, is A Pink's Hayoung strutting her stuff. Others that followed suit and did a cover of "Coming of Age Ceremony" include TWICE, Nine Muses, and even IU!
