SISTAR's contract with Starship Entertainment will be expiring soon in June.

Debuting in June 2010 with the popular single "Push Push," the girls' contract will be expiring soon as they signed a standard 7-year contract.  Ahead of their contract expiring, SISTAR is expected to make a comeback on May 31 with a song by Black Eyed Pilseung who previously produced their tracks "Touch My Body" and "I Like That."  As SISTAR's comeback coincides near the timeframe when their contract expires, there is additional interest in the contract renewal situation.

A representative of Starship Entertainment commented, "The girls are currently in discussion of renewing their contract."

pls dont disband >.<

CCA Thursday, May 18, 2017

I am praying that they stay together! If Sistar disbands, it's over. Who's going to rule Summer?

mikaay Thursday, May 18, 2017

I could not survive another second generation group disbanding ;_;

Mai_Turn Thursday, May 18, 2017

I hope, that SISTAR will stay together! They were my first K-Pop-girl-group, so they are really special to me :)!

rickkelly Mai_Turn Friday, May 19, 2017

My first Kpop moment was randomly watching videos on YouTube and clicking on Sistar's "Alone". OMG what did I just watch?! It's been a great ride since then.

Mai_Turn rickkelly Friday, May 19, 2017

Me, too :D Only difference was, that my first video was Sistar19's "Ma Boy" and Sistar's "Shady Girl" ^^

9AF Thursday, May 18, 2017

The first video I saw of them was 'So Cool' and I was immediately a fan. They have been steady with no controversies to speak of, as well as maintaining the original members. They're a solid act and I personally don't think they get the credit they deserve. They may not be #1 but they are constantly placing in the top 10 on popularity charts. So unless some members have individual plans they would like to pursue, I don't see any reason for them not to keep going. ^^

caitlinnolly Thursday, May 18, 2017

I don't think renewing with starship would be a good idea, they treat sistar like shit even though they're the biggest money makers, basically funding the company. They make enough profit, like beast/highlight, and have a big enough following to make their own company and carry on. I don't think they'll disband, I think they'll go in a different direction to WG and 2NE1, they're good enough to carry on even if their 'fanbase' isn't stable, their sales and following are.

hiroonakamura caitlinnolly Thursday, May 18, 2017

not true. sistar sells a lot singles wise but their albums sell very little, showing that they dont have that big of a fandom. So with such a little fanbase (the general audience likes to buy their singles only) , how can they fund their own agency? Also, who would write songs for them?

sheepishly hiroonakamura Thursday, May 18, 2017

Hyorin and Bora both have songwriting experience so they'll be fine.

Cheezus hiroonakamura Thursday, May 18, 2017

Dasom bought a building. I'm sure they can all fund their own agency or sign with another company.

hiroonakamura sheepishly Friday, May 19, 2017

having songwriting experience doesnt automatically generate hit songs. If that were true, everyone would be producing hit songs all the time.

hiroonakamura Cheezus Friday, May 19, 2017

running a label, promoting and so on actually costs way more than buying a bulding tbh. It's not as cheap as you think.

sheepishly hiroonakamura Friday, May 19, 2017

Yes but it's a start. These hit songwriters didn't come out the womb writing hit songs.

hiroonakamura sheepishly Saturday, May 20, 2017

if you start up a label, you dont really have the luxury of time to go through a few songs before finally getting a hit. If you do it under a label, it's ok coz you can affrod a few Ls

pink_oracle Thursday, May 18, 2017

I can't imagine why they would not sign, they're doing well and most of them get to work on solo projects. I'd imagine they'd sign 2-3 year contracts though, just in case things start to go south.

JM999 Thursday, May 18, 2017

If this comeback ended up being good, they will stay together! i hope!!

partyfan2013 Thursday, May 18, 2017

Let's just say this.  As SISTAR is currently working on renewing our contract at the moment, we should just wait it out and find out if SISTAR will stick around much longer or just go their own separate ways, thus making it yet another girl group to bite the dust this year following IOI and Wonder Girls.  Of course we will have to wait and see.

Cheezus partyfan2013 Thursday, May 18, 2017

Well, we all knew IOI was going to disband. It was their plan so can we really count them?

SwiftFoot Thursday, May 18, 2017

I don't see why they would want to leave Starship. From the outside, they seem to be doing a lot of side activities and things they want to do. Although I don't know the innerworkings of their company. Hopefully they stay together! I always look forward to Sistar comebacks!

Cheezus SwiftFoot Thursday, May 18, 2017

Because Starship treats them like crap. Starship hardly ever gives them creative freedom (took 6 years for one of Hyolyn's songs to end up on Sistar's albums), barely any fansigns (WJSN has had more in a little over one year than Sistar has had in almost seven years), barely any fan events, no concerts, and there's so much more.

Luxorris Cheezus Thursday, May 18, 2017

SISTAR don't have fans, thats why. They are popular by general public but they don't really have fandom. And I'm Star1 so it's not like I'm hating. That's why they don't recieve same treatment as fandom based group, it's just bc Sistar make thier own unique way to success.

wonderfule Cheezus Thursday, May 18, 2017

Luxorris is right. Because sistar kinda just blew up and became a hit from bring sexy, they don't have a solid fanbsse. Their fans in Korea are very wishy washy too in Korea. They've also never had a Japanese debut or anything like that either. but I do agree that they built starship and soyou deserves a solo.

Jojo_Dancer Cheezus Thursday, May 18, 2017

Really. Starship lets Hyorin put out flop album after flop album. Dasom gets to act at will. Both Soyou and Bora get outside work. Those things you mentioned are more important to the fans, not Sistar. How do you know they want fansigns to meet a bunch of whiners? Fansigns are for nugus groups. Most established groups and artist don't do a bunch of fansigns. They don't seem very approachable anyway, especially Hyorin and Soyou. It's amazing how not one Star1 has given real examples of how Sistar is mistreated.

Cheezus Luxorris Thursday, May 18, 2017

THEY DONT HAVE FANS BECAUSE THEY ALL LEFT. Starship can be directly blamed for that. From the beginning Sistar barely had any fansigns or fan interactions. Why would anyone want to be fans of a group that they can't interact with? At least Starship has learned from their mistakes.

Cheezus Jojo_Dancer Thursday, May 18, 2017

If you're going to try to correct me, at least get your facts right. Hyolyn's first album did NOT flop. It did amazing. The thing is, Sistar didn't even have fansigns when they were nugus. A form of mistreatment is the fact that they forced both Soyou and Bora to perform while they were injured. You can check Onehallyu for the long lists people wrote about Starship's mistreatment of both Sistar and Star1s.

Cheezus wonderfule Thursday, May 18, 2017

You can read my response to Luxorris. Why would Sistar debut in Japan if the Japanese aren't that interested in them? China is though.

Jojo_Dancer Cheezus Thursday, May 18, 2017

The point is that Hyorin is getting the opportunity to do solos. A lot of main vocalist don't get that. Look how long it took Taeyeon and Jessica to get solo albums. And on the injury that's sad but welcome to kpop. Most companies work their idols through injuries until they can no longer do it. Did you see Sister's Showtime? Aside from Bora, those girls are unapproachable. Do you really believe they want to do fansigns? Starship would make money off the fansigns. They have more motivation to do them than Sistar. It's more likely that Hyori and Soyou don't want them than the company.

rickkelly Jojo_Dancer Friday, May 19, 2017

I'm surprised by what you wrote about Hyorin and Soyou. I went to Sistar's fanmeet during the SBS Superconcert in 2012, and Hyorin was bright and friendly. So was Dawson. Bora and Soyou looked drained, probably from being pushed too hard. When Sistar came to KCON I heard people talking about how friendly Soyou was, and they even saw her wandering the booths on the convention floor, and greeting people. They all looked great that time, and put on an excellent show.

rickkelly Friday, May 19, 2017

I meant Dasom, damn autocorrect.
