Korea University

Christmas is approaching quickly and you're probably wrapping up your last final of the semester. You've been waiting for this since September and you think to yourself, like you did last winter that you definitely don't want your winter to go to waste, filling it with marathons after marathons onHuluorNetflix.

If you're looking for something new, something refreshing, you can still apply toKorea University International Winter Campus (KU IWC)for an unforgettable experience in a country you've never been to before.Plus, let us highlight fun winter activities you can join. Please take a look at the following calendar and descriptions!

Extracurricular Activities & Field Trips for KU IWC 2016

* Dates are tentative and subjective to change.

[Extracurricular Activities]

KU IWC cherishes all students' valuable experience in Korea as they would choose KU IWC instead of spending the winter holiday with family in their home countries. We believe that our students are coming to Korea not only because they aspire to obtain academic credits during winter break, but also to broaden their horizons, learn about Korean culture and meet new friends. Therefore, we certainly highlight our extracurricular activities and field trips for KU IWC students! Plus most of these activities are complimentary except for the Ski trip and Korean cooking class, so why don't you join us?

?KU IWC will open online registration form starting on December 1 to reserve one's spot for each extracurricular activities / field trips.

1. Ice Skating

Korea University Ice rink is filled with KU students' passion for winter sports as KU Ice hockey team uses this facility for their practices and game. Also, a former South Korean figure skater who won gold at the 2010 Olympics,Yuna Kim, used this very samerinkas she attended Korea University just afew years ago. Now, you may think this rink is only for skillful skaters, but guess what, skating lessons are available for the students who have never learned how to ice skate. So don't be afraid of it, and have fun!

2.Korean Cooking Class

In order to understand a foreign country's soul and culture, you must try its cuisine. That being said, Korean Food reflects Korean's lifestyle and philosophy. KU IWC ensures that our students will learn about Korean food, as they will get to cook Korean dishes with the help of Korean cuisine chefs and taste what they make.

3. Basketball

Korea University's Basketball team is a huge part of Korean basketball history as it provided many of retired & current basketball players and coaches for the Korean Basketball League. Hence, many people think of KU as a hub of Korean basketball. With that being said, KU IWC would like to invite students who are interested in playing basketball on the court where KU basketball team practices. The contents of this event will be determined by the number of participants. It can be just a scrimmage / pick-up game or we may throw out 3 point contests or a 3 on 3 contest.

4. Korean Calligraphy

Calligraphy is the art of producing decorative handwriting or lettering with a pen or brush. KU IWC is going to hold Korean Calligraphy class as a part of its extracurricular activities. This class does not require students with Korean writing ability because they can just draw the letters not write it. Why don't you experience a beauty of Korean handwriting and get a free tumbler that will be decorated with your Korean lettering artwork?

[Field Trips]

1.Ski Trip

There are a number of Seoul suburban ski resorts that have advanced leisure culture and take just about 90-120 minutes from Seoul. The ski slopes of those leisure resorts are varied by a level of skier/snowboarder's skill. If you are a beginner, don't worry, ski lessons are available for you. If you forget to prepare yourself for Ski Trip? The comprehensive rental system allows you to rent all the equipment you need in avery easy way. Close engagement distance and aconvenient logistical system givea reason for Koreans' love of winter sports. No wonder why Korea will hold the2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics!

2. Lotte World Amusement Park

Lotte World Amusement Park Indoor Adventure is the world's largest indoor theme park and hosts a dazzling variety of seasonal festivals and parades all year round including the Masquerade Festival, the Rio Samba Carnival, the Halloween Party and the Christmas Festival. With the theme of "Little World Village," Indoor park, and "Magic Island," the outdoor park of Lotte World attracts 7.3 million visitors each year.

Taking into consideration that most students are busy with their studies from early Nov-May,Korea Universityhas generously announced that theywill be extending the application. For those of you who haven't appliedto this program yet, Korea University has extended their deadline. Please check it out below!
