Netizens have recently pointed out that Tiffany may not be the only SM Entertainment idol surrounded by a controversy involving Korea's Independence Day.

During EXO's 3rd solo concert 'EXO PLANET #3 – The EXO'rDIUM', several EXO members' faces were photoshopped onto historical figures from all nations and backgrounds for a unique, introductory clip. However, netizens didn't quite agree when they learned that Suho's face was photoshopped onto the portrait of Prince Lee Woo (also known as Yi Wu), a prince born into Korea's imperial family during Japan's colonial rule over Korea from 1910 - 1945.

Although the photoshopped image was used for all of EXO's concerts, netizens found it inappropriate that the photo wasn't removed during EXO's show in Japan on August 14, the day before Korea's Independence Day.

Prince Lee Woo is an important figure in Korea's history due to the fact that he was forced into serving Japan's imperial army during World War II as a lieutenant colonel, and was killed during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Furthermore, the photo of Lee Woo they used was taken after his graduation from his military training, which Japan utilized several times to recruit Koreans into their imperial army for the war.

While EXO-L are pointing fingers toward SM and an exterior source supposedly responsible for providing the introductory clip for EXO's concert, comments toward the incident overall are negative, saying, "I learned about this just now and am reflecting on myself for not knowing", "I'm speechless", "SM is at fault for not checking it", and more.

What do you think about the controversy?

don't forget, they've already bashed red velvet, fx, snsd in total, lay, chanyoel, kai & krystal. taeyeon &baekhyn and who-so-ever.. they've picked so much on SJ in the past, like pointing on them in advance, for times, when there are not enough members to bash on.. and by the way: they better not starting, to mess with them again.. I'm just wondering at all, why it's mostly SM, getting it all, since there are a lot of other entertainments and agencies.. if they wouldn't be so damn annoying, I would just thought of those netz as funny and entertaining.. ;-)

If people do not understand why Koreans are so sensitive about this subject, they should either keep their ignorant comments to themselves, or look up what the Japanese have done to Korea in the past.

taemint93 sooji3337 Thursday, August 18, 2016

Worse things have happened around the world...literally...koreans in korea are just unforgiving

KenjiT_07 sooji3337 Thursday, August 18, 2016

It all happened in the past!! Why bitch about it now??? So annoying! -.- Koreans act like bad things only happen over there while there are so many worst shit going around in the whole world!

taemint93 KenjiT_07 Thursday, August 18, 2016

Yup!! Take African Americans in the U.S. for example, they aren't looking for an apology from the U.S. for hundreds of years ( not quite sure on the date), rather they ask for equality!

taemint93 Thursday, August 18, 2016

*hundreds of years of slaver

PetalElf0331 taemint93 Sunday, August 21, 2016

Eh, it may not be as bad as Korea/Japan, but some African Americans do hold the past over peoples' heads. They have equality but some aren't satisfied with that. Also, unlike the entire African American deal, that was a long while ago, over 100 years since slavery was abolished, but WWII was 70 years ago and people from that time are still around, the wound isn't as old as slavery in America. Even the things that happened in the 50's-70's when it came to the racial problems, it still didn't quiet reach the level of what Japan did to Korea.

taemint93 PetalElf0331 Sunday, August 21, 2016

I know what Japan did was horrible but Korea shouldn't hold a deep hatred against Japan. Japan has apologized numerous times and gave money for compensation but Koreans say it's still not enough. Plenty of other countries have probably experienced it worse but they don't complain as much as Korea. Japan has apologized. Korea should accept it.

sooji3337 taemint93 Friday, August 26, 2016

people may think I'm overreacting, but I am Korean and I've heard so many horrifying stories about what happened during the Japanese colonization. Even if you think that they are being unreasonable, think about how you would feel if your country was persecuted like they were.

sooji3337 KenjiT_07 Friday, August 26, 2016

Have we Koreans ever act like tragedies happen only in their country? No. please stop making assumptions. There are so many occasions where Koreans have respected the tragedies of other countries, so I ask you to at least understand. Just because we choose to voice our disapproval does not mean we are "bitching."

taemint93 sooji3337 Saturday, August 27, 2016

*Sigh* I'm also Korean. But are you going to accuse me of not being patriotic to my country just because I think like this? Don't you know many South Koreans in Korea are drama queens? Making a fuss over everything... K-netz are crazy and will not forgive anyone for anything, even if an apology was issued.

If Knetizen want to be angry, they should be angry about all the photoshop not just one...

SMh

Hahahihihoho Thursday, August 18, 2016

It's disrespectful to do that with any historical figures. Why they only get angry for this particular edit? Other countries deserve respect too. I know they said it's because of the independence day but based on what I read from this article ( I know nothing about their history ) , in my opinion it's not really offensive. However, I do think that the fact that they photoshopped exo's faces onto historical figures is disrespectful.

ALice999 Thursday, August 18, 2016

they do not mean to do that not evryone know the price of Japanese

lilliana Thursday, August 18, 2016

SM is operated by humans, and it is easy to oversee, expecially not everyone is that historically educated...

Haeryn Thursday, August 18, 2016

What's up with that weird idea to photoshop EXO members' face on deceased people body anyway ? Like, the person could be totally unknown and I'd still find totally disrespectful...

YueYuu Thursday, August 18, 2016

I think it's not okay. They should write their own history and have their own story. Re-using other HUMAN BEINGS is NOT okay, it's kinda sick how they're trying to idolize their idols in that way! Those are "JUST" singers! No war heros or princes or whatever. And then someone with such a history on top of that. Not cool in my opinion.
