EXO's Chanyeol is caught up in a controversy for downloading 'Pokémon Gold and Silver,' a game meant exclusively for the Nintendo, illegally on his phone.

This past July 16, Chanyeol had shared a clip of 'Pokémon Gold and Silver' on his Instagram with the words "I will have you." When his followers saw this post, many of them pointed out, "That's illegal game downloading," "This is possible on your cell phone? Isn't this illegal?" "Why is he admitting to illegal downloading?" and more.

Chanyeol, seeing the comments left on his Instagram, quickly deleted the post; unfortunately, people have already taken screen captures of it and circulated online.

When his post blew up and became a controversy, the idol wrote an apology. The apology goes, "Hi, this is Chanyeol!! The reason I'm uploading a post like this is to apologize to everyone!! First and foremost, I'm someone who really like games, and as a public figure, I think my sharing a clip of an illegally downloaded game was very irresponsible, and to those who use the original product and to others who felt offended, I apologize!! I will continue to be careful in many areas, and try to be Chanyeol who respects the original product!!

God forbid he downloads a 17 year old game that's not exactly easy to come by legally. And even if he did find and buy a legal cart of the game, that money isn't going to Nintendo or Game Freak who actually made the game, so it's not like purchasing it will support them. Besides, last time I checked, using emulators isn't illegal if you actually own a copy of the game. Chanyeol could have an old cart of the game somewhere, who knows. TONS of people use emulators. The people complaining probably use emulators. Hell, Let's Players use emulators. They do it for ease of recording, because recording off of a Game Boy isn't ideal. And these are people that make money off of it.

We all do it, 90% of the people here probably have illegal games downloaded at this very minute in their phones and such. I dont even like this guy, but come on, acting so self righteous is quite hypocrite. Specially coming from Koreans since Korea is known as one of the countries with most illegal downloads of things in the world. Hypocracy don't you think?

If not games, it's music, videos, photos, etc.

How come Chanyeol has to deal with fuckin saesang fan shit all the time, but we can't even give him a pass for things like this? he is just young and making stupid mistakes. The fanbase should be more forgiving or at least be like me and not have to crucify th poor boy

that's the difference between an idol caught downloading an illegal game from just a plain teen -- idols are forced/need to apologize due to the incoming backlash of what they did and all the proprietary, legal stuff. while the normal people who would post the same thing would just get asked where the game came from.

I KNEW IT!!! I looked at his post while scrolling through instagram & thought "oh no he's gonna be in so much trouble..." :(
