Remember the sick couple who beat their middle school daughter to death and hid her dead body for eleven months? The courts have finally reached a ruling on them, and it was reported that the court's ruling surpassed the recommended sentence of the prosecutors.
On May 20, Incheon District Court sentenced the 47-year-old father to 20 years in prison for violating the special laws related to child abuse and hiding a dead body. They also sentenced his wife, who was stepmother to the daughter, to 15 years in prison.

The courts reasoned, "The defendants instilled fear and shock in not only their late daughter but also in society as a whole. We must hold them responsible. The defendants showed remorse and admitted to their crimes in court but they keep reasoning that their daughter's kleptomania was what led them to commit the crime, and we doubt whether they are truly sad about her death."
