[Drama Review] 'She Was Pretty' - Episode 13

Siwon, Hwang Jung Eum, Park Seo Joon, Go Jun Hee
Quite a few things happened in this episode, one of which was Sung Joon proving himself to not be a total jerk-off. That's right, the man may possess certain redeeming qualities that he doesn't reserve for just Hye Jin and her immediate family members.

In this episode, we finally hear the apology from Sung Joon to Ha Ri that was waaaay past overdue. Maybe it's the skeptic in me talking, but even as Sung Joon was delivering his apology, he didn't seem all too remorseful or even apologetic for that matter. In fact, he almost looked pained and as if he would be anywhere else but at that spot apologizing. This leads me to think that maybe he only felt obligated to apologize so that he wouldn't feel guilt-ridden in his interactions with Hye Jin.

WHO ARE YOU MYSTERY MAN WHO IS THE HEIR OF JIN SUNG GROUP??! I have a feeling it's that Joon Woo aka JYJ Yoochun's lil bro.

I mean, he did treat Ha Ri like she was a disgusting piece of wet toilet paper that got stuck on the sole of his loafers...but he didn't know at the time that Ha Ri was Hye Jin's bestie for life. After he found out their thicker than thieves, inseparable relationship, it dawned on him that he will be seeing Ha Ri around quite often as she hangs around Hye Jin night and day. So best to set things straight before things get even more strained and awkward, so that he can move on without a guilty conscience. And Ha Ri, what with her naive heart, deflects Sung Joon's apology, tells him he did nothing wrong, and apologizes to him at least three times. Am I the only one here who thinks Sung Joon should be the one apologizing three times?

That's notthe expression of a sorry person!

At least the man is nice to Hye Jin--that is his sole redeeming quality. But I had a hard time trying not to cringe at the two being all cutesy and lovey dovey. I especially winced at the parts that showed Sung Joon giggling like a schoolgirl over how adorable Hye Jin is. Maybe if I was like, twelve, I might have appreciated this nonsense...on second thought, probably not.

Sung Joon being all disgustingly cute now that he's got Hye Jin in his clutches.

Thankfully, there were more interesting plot developments than the mooning between Sung Joon and Hye Jin. 'The Most' Korea team learns belatedly that the magazine's Korean edition may be permanently discontinued. Their anger was ineffable. Everyone was shocked beyond belief, and they felt betrayed that Sung Joon had shouldered the burden all on his own and hadn't bothered to let them in on this minor little detail that their jobs are on the line. Talk about selfish. Or maybe Sung Joon's got trust issues. Whatever the case may be, I'm seeing a pretty blatant pattern here. Sung Joon sucks at maintaining healthy human relationships. As Editor Cha so bravely and rightfully spat at him in his office, he isn't using his good judgement...he is just being a bigot. It's about swell time he realized it, too.

You're only telling me NOW that you can also eat breakfast for dinner??!

He has this troubling habit of treating people the way he deems will benefit him the most and fits his needs at a given time. First Hye Jin, then Shin Hyuk, Ha Ri, and then entire 'Most' team. He treats everyone like sh*t, ostracizing himself and oblivious to the world and the people around him. And when he realizes, "Oh, wait, I might actually need them," he goes crawling back to them to beg for mercy. As long as they benefit him, what the other parties may feel is just a careless afterthought. And this isn't just my distaste for Ji Sung Joon talking. Wait, maybe it is. In any case, don't ever treat people like how Sung Joon treats people, kids!

I almost forgot to mention...Sung Joon proposed to Hye Jin! Yes, I can hear every one of the viewers squealing over the distant time and space, but don't get too excited just yet. The magazine is still under water and Sung Joon missed the call from the Leonard Kim, who agreed to sit down with 'The Most' for an interview despite how everyone keeps emphasizing that apparently the man never gives interviews. There is also the crazy conspiracy theories of the viewers, who are claiming that the drama won't have a happy ending like everyone suspects.
