Girls' Generation talked about their infamous 'ten minute Black Ocean' incident from years ago.

Not too long after the girls debuted and were promoting "Into the New World", the girls suffered a black-out protest at one of K-pop's biggest annual events, 'Dream Concert'. Usually, K-pop groups will have their own fan "colors" and the fans will display the colors holding light sticks to show their support. Girls' Generation's color is "pink". However, during their performance, no one in the audience made noise or cheered with their lightsticks, meaning the stadium was mostly silent and dark aka "black ocean".

YoonA said, "Back then, while we were promoting our first album 'Into the New World' at 'Dream Concert', there was a 10 minute boycott. We started the stage to a dark, silent stage like no one was even there."

Hyoyeon and Seohyun added, "We were focused on the stage, so we didn't really know about the boycott. There was only a little pink light in the midst of the darkness."

They've come a long way since then, check out some videos of the incident below.

They bought tickets, therefore giving more money to SNSD. Stupid haters 😂 If it were me, I'd want them to "boycott" all my concerts too. The girls remained very professional and I'm proud of them :)

The Dream Concert isn't SNSD's concert... they were only one of many groups who performed. Those people were there to support their specific groups. What they did is cheer for everyone, even groups they weren't there for, but left out SNSD. They're not stupid. They're just haters.

I highly respect the fact that they were able to finish their performance withouth breaking. Eventhough it could be heard on their voices that they are shaking they still managed to do it. If it had been me performing there I'd have burst out in tears.

Wait what? So a bunch of anti snsd fans bought tickets and went to the concert?? I don't get it.... ;

nope. there was issues between sones and other fandoms. rumor had it that they did something to ELF and i think Cassies too. anyway, all the other fandoms kinda came together and had this idea of a black ocean. They werent specifically snsd anti but other groups fandom not liking snsd.

if it wasn't cassie then i think it was SS501 fans. One of the two

EXOfanland Wednesday, July 8, 2015

Wait why were they boycotting?

Ulla EXOfanland Tuesday, September 13, 2016

SNSD members didn't pay attention when other idol groups were singing causing some fans to overreact.

at the begining, the strong voice and high note are from jessica and taeyeon. please dont forget her

I cried at the second video "so thank you for the black ocean, because a star can't shine without darkness" ;geez, that brought me to tears

CuteDog Tuesday, December 16, 2014

WOAH~ I just like, got to this right now. Soooo hehe. Feel bad for those people who thought, 'Why is a random girl group ruining the stage of my amazing oppas?' Hehe lost their chance once, never got it again. Anyways, SNSD, look at them right now. Pretty amazing, don't you think?

Omo, I teared up a bit on the second video. It would be nice if everyone just got a long and respected each other. But you really learn from all the negative things in life. Seriously, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

angcheryl Tuesday, December 16, 2014

In all fairness, I think the main reason they were ignored was because they were a rookie group and unknown at the time. I'm sure there were other reasons too, look others said.

gouri Tuesday, January 20, 2015

i'm not a sone, but i teared up when i saw the black ocean and and when i heard that comment "star can't shine without darkness".........snsd is #respect for #proffessionalism

those oppar .. i am pity with them, they don't have any public appeal. boygroup actually don't have anyone outside their own fandom

Just one thing to say about this whole black ocean thing: KARMA IS A BITCH. Look at where the girls are now, the biggest k-pop act in Korea, extremely big in Japan, more than 50 million of digital albums sold, 1 billion of views in their official Youtube channels, and still strong, as 9. Now look at all the bad things that happened at DBSK, SJ, SS501, WG. "Who laughs last laughs best".
