Will You B Here?

Posted by xvntbk3 pts Monday, October 5, 2009

allkpop is all about dishing the Kpop dirt, but every now and then we believe it's important to dig up the dirt in our own backyards. Confused? An estimated 2 million people have chronic hepatitis B in the U.S., and Asian Americans account for more than half of the cases. This statistic hits so close to home but many of us don't even know what hepatitis B is. Allkpop is supporting the B HERE campaign to help raise awareness about this life-threatening liver disease in our community. The silent killer, better known as hepatitis B, is a serious long-term disease that often shows no symptoms while it damages the liver. It can easily be diagnosed with a simple blood test and treated with new medicines. It not only damages the liver, but can also result in liver cancer and even death. In fact, it is the second-leading cause of human cancer next to tobacco. If you're still not getting the point, this is a major issue, especially to Asian Americans! Asian Americans are 20 times more likely to have the disease compared to the overall U.S. population. However, with as many as two-thirds of Asian Americans unaware that they are infected with chronic hepatitis B, many people's health and that of their loved ones are at risk. In order to make more people aware of hepatitis B, B HERE and a few well-known Asian Americans artists have joined forces to transform this cause into action. The B Here campaign launches Monday, October 5 on the UC Irvine campus, followed by two stops at UC Davis and the University of Houston. The campaign features an Art Exhibit and Live Performances. Exhibit Artists: Ly Nguyen, Eric Koo, Lawrence Kim, Sarah Cho, Leslie Lee, Esther Oh, Brian Yu Live Performers: David Choi, AJ Rafael, Michelle Martinez, KABA Modern (MTV's America's Best Dance Crew), Paul Dateh, Jessica Sanchez, KevJumba and Happy Slip. The B HERE artists and performers lineup already guarantee an entertaining evening, and all you need to do is to B there! Did we mention that the admission to the B HERE Exhibit and Live Performance is FREE? Be sure to attend the Educational Exhibit to obtain your ticket for the Live Performance! Now, if you're jumping out of your seats to find out where these performances are going to be held at, no need because allkpop has got all the information for you below: University of California, Irvine Art Exhibit: Student Center Ballroom Monday, October 5, 10am-5pm Live Performance: Barclay Theatre Monday, October 5, 6pm-9pm University of Houston Art Exhibit: Houston Room Tuesday, October 13, 10am-5pm Live Performance: Cullen Performance Hall Tuesday, October 13, 6pm-9pm University of California, Davis Art Exhibit: Freeborn Hall Tuesday, October 27, 10am-5pm Live Performance: Freeborn Hall Wednesday, October 28, 6pm-9pm This is a serious cause!
