ANGEL EYES EPISODE 4

Twelve years ago, Soo Wan's first love, Dong Joo,left for America, and because of the machinations of her father, she never knew where he went. Now he's back, and she's still left in the dark.

In the last episode, we saw Dong Joo in a dolorous mood after Soo Wan is led away in another doctor's arms. This doctor is Ji Woon, Soo Wan's fiance. After she returns, Dong Joo grabs herarm and pulls her closer. Instead of a kiss, though, he pulls her to an exam room to treat the cut her attacker inflicted when he took her hostage. Instead of kind words, he chides her for putting everyone in danger by not tying up the berserk patient in the first place.

We flash back to a much earlier conversation with Soo Wan's father. He confesses to Dong Joothat he sees him as a son, and he tells him the perfect person for Soo Wan to marry is a neurosurgeon at the hospital.

A meeting with the higher ups earns Dong Joo thanks for saving Soo Wan and her fiance,Ji Woon, whosemother works on the board and was an old classmate of the Director.

The next scene features a middle-aged detective, a very drunken one. He's seen here with someone young enough to be his daughter, but they make it clear that she's not. I can't find any info on the wikis that makes sense to justify this pair; they had quite a scene last episode, too, as he shook her down for money. They chit chat about how he used to be a corrupt detective, who took a bribe and was fired for it, and speculate about the guy who ratted him out. I'm hoping we'll find out how this guy fits in soon because the character, frankly, annoys me.

During a rescue mission, Soo Wan discovers an elderly woman collapsed on the floor in her apartment. They rush her to the hospital where an annoyed Dong Joo againharangues her for not following procedure and calling ahead. He sees Soo Wan consulting with Ji Woon about the new patient. Dong Joo's eyes flash with anger; he figures the reason she brought the elderly patient to that specific hospital was because she wanted to see Ji Woon. He initially refuses all ambulances from that area in retaliation, citing her break with procedure.

Soo Wan apologizes for her impropriety and Dong Joorelents. She asks about his accent and if they've met before. This is his chance to let her know who he is, how he feels, but he brushes her off and denies everything. I think he does not want to stand in the way of her happiness, so he will quietly disappear one day and not create any problems.

We're treated to another, earlier conversation between Dong Joo and Soo Wan's father, just after Dong Joo graduated summa cum laude and was selected as valedictorian. Soo Wan's father rings the bell in the bar and announces that he loves his "son" (which, as we saw earlier, is what he considers Dong Joo).. As he puts his drunken "dad" to bed that night, Dong Jooalso admits that this man is very much a father to him.

Dong Joodecides to shoot some hoops to forget his problems, and who should come strolling along but Ji Woon? After an exhausting round of one on one, they collapse on the ground.Ji Woon says that he likes him and wants to be friends. It's very ironic that his unknowing rival enjoys his company that much. If Ji Woon knew anything about Dong Joo's connection to Soo Wan, it would be like pouring salt on the wound. It obviously makes Dong Joo uncomfortable, but there's nothing there except two men bonding.

Leaving for a staff meeting together, the two men happen upon a traffic jam caused by an accident. A gas truck has struck a car, and they work to lever the car open. Soo Wan is there, too, as an EMT. Dong Jooducks into the car and first retrieves an infant and then the mother. Apparently, the petroleum truck is leaking and in flames. As they leave the scene, the truck explodes. The baby is safe, but they lose the mother in the ambulance.

Soo Wan goes to the planetarium to drink and center herself. She finds Dong Joo there, trying to sleep. She invites him to drink with her. He makes fun of her names for the constellations because she named them after people she misses: her mother, Jung Hwa, and Dong Joo. She also admits that she is grateful for Dong Joo, hates him at the same time, and that she misses him like crazy before finally passing out. A tear runs down her face as she lies there. He puts his coat around her, also shedding tears. "Just thinking of you makes me cry," he thinks to himself, "my first love."

Also during this scene, she starts to beat herself up for the baby they rescued who will grow up without a mother, and then looks at the stars to make herself feel worse? That would be the last thing I would do if I were depressed, go someplace to make me more depressed. But it gave her a reason to be there with Dong Joo. The chemistry between these two is impressive, almost as good as what they had in the first two episodes as teens.

Makes me eager for the weekend to find out more. Does Dong Joo finally confess who he is? Does she find out? She certainly suspects. What I don't understand is why he is such a jerk around her. He's very cold, distant, and harsh. I understand the need to keep some distance, to not interfere, but does he have to be so hard on her? It makes me think he's overcompensating, trying to make her hate him in order to complete the facade and stay out of her life. And who is that detective? Why is he important enough to give him screen time?

Bear with me, my readers. There's more to come!
