ENHYPEN's Sunghoon has revealed a new side of his artistry with a captivating cover song.
On September 27th, a video of Sunghoon covering the song "Odoriko" (Dancer) was released on the group's official YouTube channel. The track, originally released in 2021 by popular Japanese singer-songwriter Vaundy, is a massive hit, having earned a 'Triple Platinum' certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan for exceeding 300 million streams.
Known for his crisp and clear vocal style, Sunghoon adopted a more laid-back and dreamy approach for this cover, expanding his musical range. While preserving the lyrical mood of the original, he added his own distinct charm, emphasizing each word to match the rhythm.
The visually striking video is also drawing attention, largely due to Sunghoon's deep involvement in its creation. To best express the song's emotions, he actively participated in everything from the initial planning to the final tone and style. He established a clear storyline contrasting night (reality) and day (a daydream), and even suggested specific camera movements and cross-editing techniques. Sunghoon also contributed to the overall direction, including the video's raw texture, color grading, and location choice. In a personal touch, he brought his own film camera to the set as a prop, adding to the video's vintage aesthetic.
Through his agency, Belift Lab, Sunghoon shared, "It’s a song I personally enjoy listening to, and I thought it would suit my voice, so I chose to cover it. I hope ENGENE (fandom name) will enjoy it too". He added, "You'll be able to immerse yourself in it more if you focus on the emotional shifts between night and day in the video's story".
Meanwhile, ENHYPEN is currently on their successful 'WALK THE LINE' world tour. The group is set to perform at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from October 3-5, before holding their grand finale encore concerts at the KSPO DOME in Seoul from October 24-26. The membership pre-sale for the encore shows opens on September 29th at 8 PM KST.
