
Baek Se Hee, the author of 'I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki,' has passed away at the age of 35.
According to the Korea Organ Donation Agency, on October 17, Baek Se Hee passed away on October 16 after donating her organs following brain death, saving the lives of five people.
Baek donated her heart, lungs, liver, and both kidneys. The circumstances that led to her brain death have not been disclosed.
Baek was widely loved for her essay 'I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki,' which shared her experiences of living with dysthymia (persistent mild depression) and her therapy sessions with her psychiatrist. She went on to publish several more books, including 'No One Loves You as Much as I Do' and 'I Want to Write, I Don’t Want to Write.' Most recently, she released her first novel, 'The Will of Barcelona.'
Since childhood, Baek had a deep love for reading and writing. She majored in creative writing at university and worked at a publishing company for five years. During that period, she began therapy and counseling to overcome personal pain and emotional wounds.
Her family described Baek as a warm-hearted person who always reached out to help those in need.
Baek’s younger sister said, “My sister hoped to write and connect with people through her words, nurturing dreams of hope. Knowing her kind heart that could never hate anyone, I wish for her to rest peacefully in heaven now.”
