It seems like just yesterday the 10-step Korean skincare routine was everywhere. But now, this complex skincare ritual has quietly given way to simpler routines, marking a shift toward minimalism.
Keeping up with ten skincare steps can definitely feel overwhelming, especially when done twice daily. While the 10-step approach - which involves an oil cleanser, water cleanser, exfoliator, toner, essence, serum or ampoule, sheet mask, eye cream, moisturizer, and sunscreen -promised beautiful results, it wasn't very practical for daily life, leading many to cut down their routine significantly.
Instead, more skincare enthusiasts in Korea are now leaning towards skincare devices, which offer similar results without relying on numerous individual products. Devices like facial massagers, LED therapy tools, and ultrasonic cleansers are quickly becoming popular alternatives to the multi-step approach.
Brands have also adapted to this minimalist trend by developing multipurpose skincare products. For instance, Laneige’s Cream Skin Toner combines the benefits of a toner and moisturizer, simplifying your routine. Similarly, Kahi’s famous Multi Balm Stick, frequently showcased in Korean dramas, hydrates the skin and smooths wrinkles simultaneously, streamlining multiple skincare steps into one.
