Police officer reportedly cheated on pregnant wife with underage girl

A Busan police officer is under scrutiny for cheating on his pregnant wife with a 17-year-old high school student. 

According to what Busan Metropolitan Police Agency revealed on June 30, the officer was identified as 31-year-old Jung, who is employed under Yeonje District Police Station and works as a school resource officer. Reportedly, Jung began sexual relations with the 17-year-old back in March. It was revealed that Jung had sex with the 17-year-old multiple times at motels and in a car up until the beginning of May. His affair with the student comes as even more of a shock considering that Jung is a married man with a wife who is reported to be pregnant. 

During investigations, Jung stated, "At the time, I was going to divorce my wife and live with the student. I shed my officer's uniform because a problem arose. I'm sorry."

Meanwhile, the student was discovered trying to commit suicide on May 7. Her affair with Jung came to light when she started consulting her problems with an adolescent protection agency. 

Current criminal law dictates that those who have sexual relations with minors under 13 years of age could be convicted despite the lack of coercion. Since the student is over the age of 13, this law does not apply to her, and at the moment, it is unclear how her case will be dealt with. 

A police rep relayed that Jung will be dismissed from his post and that his already disbursed retirement funds will be returned.
