Kim Jang Hoon has shared the story behind his past inflight smoking controversy.
On April 7, a video titled “Singer Kim Jang Hoon Episode 8” was released on the YouTube channel hosted by Song Seung Hwan, where the singer spoke candidly about the incident.
Kim Jang Hoon recalled that the situation began when his instruments failed to arrive ahead of a scheduled performance in Paris, which led to extreme stress and anger. He explained that after taking medication for panic disorder, he lost consciousness and missed the performance entirely.
He went on to reveal that during his return flight, his anger intensified despite taking medication, leading him to also consume a large number of sleeping pills. In a confused state, he ended up smoking in the airplane restroom, triggering an alarm.
Reflecting on the incident, Kim Jang Hoon emphasized that he did not try to justify his actions, acknowledging it was entirely his fault regardless of the circumstances. He added that he accepted responsibility and aimed to live more responsibly moving forward.
The singer had previously been fined for violating aviation safety laws following the 2015 incident on a flight from Paris to Incheon.
Kim Jang Hoon is well known for donating most of his earnings over the years, with his cumulative donations exceeding 20 billion KRW (approx. 15 million USD).
