South Korean prosecutors have formally indicted a Brazilian woman in her 30s on charges of stalking and trespassing after she allegedly targeted Jungkook of BTS by repeatedly visiting his home and ringing his doorbell hundreds of times.
According to a March 3 report by The Herald Business, the Women and Children’s Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office indicted the suspect, identified only as A, on February 27. She was charged with violating South Korea’s Anti-Stalking Act and with trespassing. Authorities placed her under arrest prior to indictment. Prosecutors also reviewed a separate allegation of attempted trespassing but dismissed that charge, citing insufficient evidence.
23 Visits in One Month
Investigators allege that between December 7 of last year and January 4 of this year, A visited Jungkook’s residence a total of 23 times. During those visits, she allegedly rang the doorbell hundreds of times, waited near the property in an apparent attempt to see the artist, and left letters and other mail.
In late December, police imposed an urgent emergency measure against A after determining there was a risk of continued stalking behavior. The order reportedly included restrictions such as prohibiting her from approaching within 100 meters of the residence or attempting contact.
Despite these measures, prosecutors say A returned to the property again in early January, leading to an additional charge for violating emergency protective orders under the Anti-Stalking Act. Under South Korean law, responses to stalking escalate in stages. Police may first apply emergency measures at the scene, followed by urgent emergency measures that restrict contact or proximity if repeated offenses are feared. Courts may then impose provisional measures upon request by prosecutors when there is a continued risk of recurrence.
Trespassing Through Side Gate
In a separate incident on December 13, A is accused of entering a side gate of Jungkook’s residence after a food delivery worker briefly opened it to leave an order. Yongsan Police arrested her at the scene on suspicion of trespassing.
During initial questioning, A reportedly told police that she only wanted to make her presence known and did not intend to cause harm. She was released the following day after the preliminary investigation.
However, authorities determined that her alleged behavior continued. On December 28, a staff member reportedly spotted her near the residence again and alerted police, prompting the urgent emergency measure. The following day, the Seoul Western District Court approved the action retroactively.
When A’s whereabouts later became unknown, police sought an arrest warrant on January 28. Prosecutors requested the warrant, which was granted, leading to her arrest on February 10. A detention warrant was subsequently issued, and she has remained in custody since February 13.
Prosecutors Cite Pattern of Repeated Conduct
The case was transferred to prosecutors on February 19. After further investigation and interviews, including questioning the suspect and reviewing evidence, prosecutors concluded that the repeated visits, persistent attempts at contact, and violation of emergency measures constituted stalking under South Korean law.
While A reportedly acknowledged most of the factual allegations during questioning, she denied criminal intent, stating that her actions were motivated by love rather than any desire to harm the artist. Nevertheless, prosecutors determined that the conduct met the legal threshold for stalking and trespassing and proceeded with a formal indictment while she remains detained.
Meanwhile, prosecutors declined to pursue the attempted trespassing charge after reviewing CCTV footage, concluding that the evidence did not sufficiently support that allegation. The case now moves forward to trial, drawing renewed attention to the enforcement of South Korea’s Anti-Stalking Act and the legal boundaries surrounding celebrity privacy and personal safety.
