Super Junior member Shindong has revealed the story behind his estrangement from his parents.
In episodes 8 and 9 of the Disney+ variety show 'Battle of Fates', released on February 25th KST, the 'War of the Gods' mission unfolded, featuring a scene where Shindong sat directly in front of destiny readers (fortune tellers) to confess his personal worries.
On this day, Shindong explained his real reason for coming down to get a reading, admitting, "Saying I had an overseas schedule was a lie."
Shindong stated, "I was curious about what the future holds. Among those things, I am also curious about marriage and how many children I will have," and selected Seolhwa and Choi Han Na as his destiny readers.
Seolhwa told him, "You say you want to get married, but it's all talk. You don't trust women. You should meet a younger woman who feels like an older woman. Even someone 12 years younger is fine." Shindong drew laughter by responding, "I'm actually fine with that."
Shindong then noted, "She is so similar to my ex-girlfriend," to which Seolhwa replied, "You almost got married." Surprised by this, Shindong shocked everyone by confirming, "I really was planning to get married."
Seolhwa then brought up his family, asking, "Your mother's luck has improved, so why does she keep obsessing over money, money, money?" Shindong opened up, saying, "To be honest, I am currently not in contact with my mom and dad."
He revealed, "The reason, as you might expect, was because of money. Problems arose because of financial issues."
Shindong explained, "When I gave my mom living expenses, she would say, 'Instead of giving it to me monthly, give it to me all at once. I'll do something with it so you won't have to worry.'" He added, "She always wanted large sums of money. She took big lump sums and ended up getting scammed, or made bad investments and lost everything."
Expressing his honest longing for marriage, Shindong said, "That's why I feel lonely. I've wanted to get married since I was young. I thought that was what happiness meant."
In stark contrast to his glamorous life as a star on stage, Shindong's raw confession about the scars and loneliness caused by his family history is drawing deep sympathy from viewers.
