Sung Si Kyung recently gave an update on his activities and revealed that he is now working with a new Japanese manager.
On February 26, Sung Si Kyung appeared as a special guest on actress Choi Hwa Jung's YouTube channel and talked about his activities in Japan. He had recently appeared on a Japanese TV program and captivated the cast and the viewers with his perfect pitch and distinctive vocal tone. The clip quickly spread online and went viral, gaining traction also in South Korea.
Choi Hwa Jung expressed her admiration and said, “I was so moved. You went to Japan all by yourself without a coordinator or stylist.” Sung Si Kyung replied, “I’m not part of a large agency, and I don’t have a Japanese company either. I don’t even really have a company. More importantly, there’s no precedent. There hasn’t been anyone like me - a normal artist active in Korea - studying Japanese and trying to do something there. Because of that, they couldn’t cast me on their shows. Japan really prefers safe choices. Even if I’m famous in Korea, so what? There’s no interest and no demand. I wanted to appear on major programs, but they didn’t invite me.”

He then revealed how he was about to land his latest appearance on the Japanese show. He explained, “My new Japanese manager recently took on my work, and he has great connections and is very capable. While talking with Fuji TV, he suggested that I should appear on that program. But the song was completely unfamiliar. I studied it thoroughly. It wasn’t about me being a great singer - it’s like a game. You have to match the pitch exactly.”
Explaining why he is so serious about advancing into Japan, Sung Si Kyung said, “The reason I’m so desperate is that I want to look cool to my juniors and help my talented senior and junior singers if they want to go there someday. To do that, you need influence.”
Meanwhile, Sung Si Kyung recently suffered emotional distress following an embezzlement case involving his former manager, with whom he had worked for 10 years. The former manager, identified as Mr. A, had such a close relationship with the singer that Sung Si Kyung even paid for his wedding expenses, making the incident especially shocking to the public.
Mr. A was reported for occupational embezzlement but was not referred for prosecution. Sung Si Kyung’s side stated, “Because this involves a former manager with whom we built trust over a long period, we hope the situation can be resolved amicably,” and showed leniency toward him.
