Actor Kim Seon Ho will proceed with his scheduled stage performance despite being swept up in tax-related allegations.
A representative of the play ‘Secret Passage’ stated on February 4th KST, “As of now, the play is preparing to open as scheduled. If there are any changes, we will inform you later.”
‘Secret Passage’ tells the story of two people who meet in an unfamiliar space after losing their memories of life, and through books containing intertwined memories, come to read about fate, death, and the repetition of life within a small gap between life and death.
Set to open on the 13th, ‘Secret Passage’ had already drawn attention due to Kim Seon Ho’s casting, and the performances in which he appears are currently sold out.
Controversy recently arose after reports revealed that Kim Seon Ho had established and operated a separate performance planning corporation under his home address in Yongsan, Seoul, with family members serving as executives. Allegations were raised that the structure resembled that of Cha Eun Woo’s corporation, which had reportedly received a tax reassessment notice worth around 20 billion KRW. Questions were also raised about whether the company was a “paper company,” citing that no actual business activities had reportedly taken place for about a year.
In response, his agency Fantagio stated, “Kim Seon Ho is currently active under an exclusive contract with Fantagio under his personal name, and all legal and tax procedures related to his current contractual relationship and activities are being faithfully followed. We clearly state that there are no issues related to Kim Seon Ho’s contract or activities with Fantagio.”
The agency added, “The one-person corporation mentioned in reports was established for the purpose of theater production and theater-related activities, and was never set up with the intent of intentional tax reduction or evasion. However, after transferring to Fantagio, actual business activities have not taken place for about a year, and the company is currently undergoing closure procedures in accordance with relevant laws and processes.”
