IDID, the group formed through Starship’s large scale project ‘Debut’s Plan), celebrated Lunar New Year by taking on the challenge of making tteok mandu guk.
IDID (Jang Yong Hoon, Kim Min Jae, Park Won Bin, Chu Yu Chan, Park Sung Hyun, Baek Jun Hyuk, and Jung Se Min) released a special holiday video titled “IDID’s Lunar New Year Homemade Dumplings” through their official YouTube channel. Dressed neatly in hanbok, the seven “flower scholars” began with a deep traditional bow, greeting fans with, “WITHID, Happy New Year.”
The content was designed as a festive cooking competition, with members earning ingredients through games before creating their own D.I.Y dumplings. As most of the members were making dumplings for the first time, the competition unfolded as a 3 versus 3 team battle, while Park Won Bin took on the role of judge and host, overseeing both the cooking process and the evaluation.
Under the rule that only dumplings selected by Park Won Bin could be added to the tteok mandu guk, the competitive spirit quickly intensified. Team “Mandu Mandu Mandu Mandu So Cute,” led by self proclaimed “meat expert” Jang Yong Hoon, confidently declared he had memorized the dumpling recipe and would shake up the opposing team’s flavors. Meanwhile, “ramen expert” Jung Se Min led Team “It’s Me, Mandu,” assigning Kim Min Jae as the “human dumpling” mascot and placing Chu Yu Chan in charge of dumpling wrappers, adding strategy and humor to the rivalry.
The ingredient battle featured a series of unpredictable games, including guessing ten seconds without looking at a clock, transferring beans with chopsticks, identifying items inside a lucky pouch, peeling fruit in one long strip, and blowing out as many candles as possible while wearing an apron. The chaotic competition heightened the excitement, especially as judge Park Won Bin nervously anticipated tasting unconventional dumpling combinations.
During the dumpling making stage, each team’s creativity stood out. From experimental dumplings featuring tomatoes to surprisingly stable flavor pairings, a variety of results emerged. The members also shared childhood Lunar New Year memories, filling the set with warmth.
The blind tasting segment, with Park Won Bin wearing an eye mask and the teams divided into black and white, playfully parodied the popular cooking show concept “black and white chefs,” drawing laughter. In a surprising twist, victory did not go to Jang Yong Hoon’s team, which had won the ingredient games and used safer fillings. Instead, Jung Se Min’s team triumphed with their bold, experimental recipe that initially left the judge anxious. The members then enjoyed tteok mandu guk made with the winning team’s dumplings, fully embracing the holiday atmosphere.
Wrapping up, the members shared their thoughts on making dumplings for the first time, closing the cooking showdown on a cheerful note. The lively teamwork and variety show chemistry created a memorable holiday gift for fans, who responded enthusiastically in the comments with reactions such as, “The holiday is over, but IDID content refills my happiness,” and “Five stars, I’ll watch this whenever I feel down.”
Alongside the cooking content, IDID also released commemorative hanbok photos from the shoot. Wearing harmoniously styled hanbok in calm tones, the members posed with outstretched hands, showcasing their warm visuals and charming presence.
Meanwhile, IDID, launched by Starship as its first new group in five years, debuted in September last year as a seven member boy group recognized for their all rounder potential across dance, vocals, charm, and fan communication. With their debut album ‘I did it.’ and single album ‘PUSH BACK’, they earned Rookie of the Year awards and appeared at major year end music festivals, bringing fresh energy to the fifth generation idol scene.
