Kim Min Ji, currently appearing on Netflix’s dating reality series 'Single’s Inferno 5,' is fully reaping the so-called “broadcast effect.”
Ahead of the show’s premiere, Kim Min Ji had around 450,000 followers on Instagram. As of February 4, that figure has surged past 980,000, putting her within striking distance of the one-million mark after a rapid and explosive increase.
From the early episodes, Kim Min Ji drew viewers’ attention with her striking features and commanding on-screen presence. Her unwavering, straightforward approach toward Song Seung Il quickly became a talking point, earning her the nickname “Go-getter-girl.” While her confident image stood out, audiences were equally drawn to her candid and pure side, prompting reactions such as “she gets more charming the more you watch” and “unexpectedly adorable.” The buzz translated directly into social media growth, once again proving the power of the so-called “Single's Inferno effect.”

This trend is hardly unique to Kim Min Ji. Similar patterns have emerged among other dating show contestants. Kwak Min Kyung, who recently gained attention through TVING’s 'EXchange 4,' surpassed 400,000 Instagram followers within just one day of making her account public.
On the 19th of this month, Kwak Min Kyung opened her existing personal account rather than creating a new one, immediately engaging with fans. Unlike other contestants who started fresh accounts, her past posts were visible as well, naturally revealing her daily life and personal sensibility. Her photos, noted for their refined mood and distinctive color palette, drew particular attention. Even her profile stood out, featuring an email address based on her nickname “Minwawa.” Kwak Min Kyung currently has around 907,000 followers, the highest among the 'EXchange 4' cast.

A prime example of successfully expanding into an influencer career after a dating show is Sung Hae Eun from 'EXchange 2.' Since her appearance in 2022, she has steadily grown her presence on YouTube and social media, building strong public recognition. Recently, news of her move into a newly built apartment in Seoul’s Jamwon-dong resurfaced, once again putting her in the spotlight.
Meanwhile, Lee Sian, who appeared on Shindong’s YouTube channel segment Dongdong Pocha, released on October 8, 2025, also spoke candidly about the impact of dating shows. After appearing on 'Single’s Inferno,' she revealed that her income increased significantly. “When I check my monthly settlement, there’s an extra zero at the end now,” she said, adding that her earnings reached as high as 100 million KRW (approx. 67,947 USD) per month at their peak, drawing widespread attention.
As more contestants rapidly gain public recognition through dating reality programs and successfully convert that fame into social media influence and income, attention is now focused on whether Kim Min Ji and Kwak Min Kyung will follow Sung Hae Eun in reaching the coveted one-million-follower milestone. With the rise of popular dating shows, yet another proven formula for creating next-generation influencers has appeared.
