Actor Ahn Bo Hyun recently sat down for an interview to mark his 10th debut anniversary and the successful conclusion of his tvN drama, 'Spring Fever'.
Although he began modeling in 2007 and took on minor roles starting in 2014, Ahn Bo Hyun and his fans consider the 2016 film 'Hiya' as his official acting debut. Since then, he has risen to stardom with hits like 'Itaewon Class', 'Yumi's Cells', 'My Name', and 'Military Prosecutor Doberman'.
His most recent drama, 'Spring Fever', which concluded on the 10th with a solid viewer rating of 5.7%, featured Ahn as Seon Jae Gyu, a passionate man who finds love with a teacher played by Lee Joo Bin.
On His Physical Transformation for 'Spring Fever'
Ahn Bo Hyun is known for his dedication to character visuals. For Seon Jae Gyu, he revealed the effort behind the character's intimidating yet human look.
"Seon Jae Gyu is a character born with a strong constitution. I thought he needed to have a human touch rather than just defined abs, so I focused on bulking up to create a larger physique," he explained. "I also had to maintain his trademark 'Lego hair,' which required careful trimming twice a week."
Chemistry with Lee Joo Bin
The actor also touched upon his romance acting, which received praise from viewers. He highlighted the "height difference chemistry" between him (187cm) and Lee Joo Bin.
"Because Lee Joo Bin has a petite frame and a small face, standing next to her or hugging her created a visual chemistry different from other dramas," Ahn noted. Regarding their kiss scenes, he added, "It wasn't about being skillful. It was about showing Jae Gye’s clumsiness—hesitating with clenched fists—that made the scenes look beautiful."

From Boxer to Blue Dragon Winner
Ahn Bo Hyun’s journey is unique; a former aspiring boxer from Busan Sports High School, he quit the sport due to injuries and pivoted to modeling and acting. He admitted that for a long time, he was hard on himself.
"Because I used to box, I tend to whip myself rather than give myself carrots. I was strict because in sports, results depend on how much you push yourself," he shared. However, after winning the Best New Actor award at the 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards last year for the movie 'The Devil Moved In', his mindset shifted. "I’m trying to be more positive now. I want to tell myself, 'It’s okay to keep going in the direction you’re worrying about.'"
Future Plans
Celebrating his 10th anniversary, Ahn Bo Hyun shows no signs of slowing down. He expressed excitement for his upcoming projects, including the confirmed production of 'Flex X Cop Season 2' and the new series 'God's Beads'.
"I feel like I'm waiting for spring," he concluded. "The cold season has passed, I spent the winter well, and now I’m at a fluttering moment waiting for what comes next".
