Actress Yeom Hye Ran is heading to Germany as her film 'My Name' (directed by Jeong Ji Young) has been invited to the Berlin International Film Festival.
On January 15, the Berlin International Film Festival announced the lineup for its non-competitive section of the 76th edition. 'My Name' was invited to the Forum section.
The Forum section highlights films with distinctive and daring artistic approaches. Previous selections have included 'Snowpiercer' (2013), 'Late Autumn' (2011), and 'Exhuma' (2024).
The festival praised the film, saying it “delicately captures the trauma left by tragic history” and “underscores the importance of breaking long-held silence.”

It added, “Through a meticulously crafted narrative, it delivers a powerful emotional impact,” noting that presenting the film as a world premiere in the Forum section is particularly meaningful.
'My Name' is inspired by the Jeju 4·3 Incident. It tells the story of a boy who wants to abandon his name, his mother who must protect it, and a promise made 50 years ago.
This is a new work from director Jeong Ji Young, known for sharply exploring the painful sides of society in films such as 'Unbowed' (2012), 'National Security/Namyeong-dong1985' (2012), and 'The Boys' (2023).
Yeom Hye Ran plays Jeong Soon, a mother raising her son alone, confronting the truths hidden in her lost memories. The role showcases her depth and commanding presence.
The production team expressed, “We are thrilled that the film’s authenticity is recognized through its Berlin Film Festival invitation. The story was completed with the heartfelt contributions of Jeju residents, and we hope audiences have high expectations.”
'My Name' is scheduled for theatrical release in April.
