XG has just announced a surprising new change to their group name.
On January 12, XG issued an official statement, revealing that they are changing their group name from 'Xtraordinary Girls' to 'Xtraordinary Genes.'
Only one month ago, XG member Cocona came out as 'AFAB transmasculine non-binary'. Fans overwhelmingly expressed their support for Cocona, while some raised questions about what this would mean for XG's status as a 'global girl group.'
Now, XG has officially changed their name to 'Xtraordinary Genes' and indicated that they are now simply considered a 'global group.' XG's company, XGALX, published an official statement explaining the change:
"Thank you, as always, for your warm and continued support.
We are pleased to announce that XG has evolved its group name from “Xtraordinary Girls” to “Xtraordinary Genes.”
The word “Genes” represents the power and creativity that reside within our core, as well as our spirit of continuously creating new culture without being bound by conventional norms.
Building upon our origins as “Girls,” and returning to the “Genes” at our core, XG will continue to evolve more deeply and authentically. Through this evolution, we aim to remain a presence that empowers people around the world from diverse backgrounds.
We sincerely appreciate your continued support for XG and XGALX."

Meanwhile, XG is currently preparing to embark on their second world tour, beginning in February. The group is also set to release their highly-anticipated first full album, 'THE CORE - 核', on January 23.
