The production team behind the upcoming film 'Gardeners' (working title) has unveiled an impressive casting lineup.
On January 14, the filmmakers announced that Song Kang Ho, Koo Kyo Hwan, Song Seung Heon, Lee Kwang Soo, Shin Hyun Been, and Lee Jae In will star in the film, marking the completion of what many are calling a “once-in-a-generation” ensemble.
'Gardeners' tells the story of a civil servant whose only hobby is tending to flowers. After unexpectedly teaming up with the neighborhood’s resident troublemaker, he plunges into a special gardening business that spirals into utter chaos. The film blends comedy with escalating tension, promising a fresh and unpredictable narrative.
The project is directed by Nam Dong Hyub, who made his debut last year with 'Handsome Guys.' Praised for his witty and stylish direction, Nam earned recognition, including the Rookie Director Award at the 'Directors' Cut Awards.'
Song Kang Ho takes on the role of civil servant Choi Young Il, while Koo Kyo Hwan plays Kim Moon Ho, the neighborhood’s notorious troublemaker. The two are expected to showcase an unpredictable and dynamic on-screen chemistry.
Song Seung Heon portrays Han Chung Yong, a once-celebrated star whose career comes crashing down after a single incident. His character is described as charismatic on the surface, with surprising layers hidden beneath. Lee Kwang Soo joins the cast as “President Song,” the owner of a lottery shop who becomes Choi Young Il’s partner by handling distribution for the gardening venture, injecting energy and momentum into the story.
Shin Hyun Been appears as Kang Mi Ae, a restaurant owner harboring a dangerous secret, adding an element of suspense, while Lee Jae In plays Choi Eun Soo, Choi Young Il’s daughter, rounding out the ensemble with emotional depth.
A representative from the production commented, “Director Nam Dong Hyub is set to deliver lively humor and thrilling tension with a sharp, stylish touch. We ask audiences to look forward to the essence of a truly well-made comedy.”
Meanwhile, 'Gardeners' is currently in pre-production and is aiming to begin filming later this year.
