A rapper currently appearing on the well known hip hop competition program 'SHOW ME THE MONEY 12' has been indicted on charges of allegedly evading mandatory military service by feigning a mental illness.
The Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office announced on January 28 that rapper A has been charged with violating the Military Service Act.
According to the prosecution, A received a Grade 2 physical classification during his initial military service examination in 2016, making him eligible for active duty service. However, between January and June 2022, he allegedly visited a psychiatric clinic while pretending to suffer from a mental disorder in an effort to avoid active duty enlistment.
As a result, A was later reclassified as Grade 4, citing depressive disorder, and was assigned to serve as a social service worker instead of an active duty soldier. Authorities stated that the Military Manpower Administration’s special judicial police detected circumstances suggesting possible draft evasion, which led to an investigation and the subsequent indictment. The case will now proceed through the court system.
