Actor Jung Woo Sung’s agency has firmly denied allegations that praise posts about his acting were part of a so-called “mom cafe viral marketing” campaign.
On January 14, Jung Woo Sung’s agency Artist Company released an official statement, saying, “The claims are completely unfounded,” drawing a clear line against the ongoing controversy. Jung Woo Sung currently appears as prosecutor Jang Geon Yeong in the Disney+ original series 'Made in Korea,' which premiered on December 24 last year.
Following the series’ release, viewers expressed divided opinions regarding Jung Woo Sung’s performance. Some criticized what they described as stiff delivery and exaggerated gestures, commenting that his acting felt “awkward” or “overly forced.” Others, however, defended the performance, arguing that it suited the character’s setting and personality, resulting in mixed reactions online.
Amid this debate, some posts praising or defending Jung Woo Sung’s acting began appearing across various online communities, including parenting-focused “mom cafes.” Some netizens raised suspicions after claiming that several of these posts shared similar formats and posting dates, leading to accusations of public opinion manipulation and viral marketing.
As speculation and media coverage continued, Jung Woo Sung’s agency reiterated its stance, stating that the allegations were “completely false” and denying any involvement in promotional posting activities.
Meanwhile, 'Made in Korea' is set in South Korea during the turbulent yet transformative 1970s. The series follows Baek Gi Tae, played by Hyun Bin, a businessman determined to rise to the top by turning the nation itself into a profit model, and prosecutor Jang Geon Yeong, portrayed by Jung Woo Sung, who relentlessly pursues him. The story unfolds against a backdrop of sweeping historical events, with the final episode of Season 1 scheduled for release on January 14.
