Comedian Park Na Rae has revealed that she developed social anxiety and panic disorder amid an unresolved dispute with her former manager, as negotiations between the two ultimately broke down.
According to recent update, messages exchanged between Park Na Rae and her former manager shortly before the collapse of settlement talks show that Park expressed psychological distress, stating, “I developed social anxiety and even panic disorder.” The message was sent on the night of December 8, the same day Park released a public statement saying she had met her former manager and cleared up misunderstandings.
Park Na Rae and her former manager met at her home in Itaewon around 3 a.m. on December 8 and spoke for approximately three hours before parting ways. Later that morning, Park released a statement announcing her withdrawal from broadcasting, saying that while misunderstandings had been addressed through direct conversation, she believed the situation was entirely her fault and reflected deeply on her actions.
However, the former manager’s side claimed they were surprised by the unilateral statement, asserting that there had been no clear apology or acknowledgment of responsibility. Believing Park was open to settlement, they sent a draft agreement through legal counsel later that day.
After receiving the draft, Park contacted her former manager directly and exchanged text messages for about five hours. While she expressed a desire to resolve the matter amicably, she did not agree to or propose specific revisions to the settlement, according to the former manager’s side. Park reportedly stated that the tone of the legal agreement differed greatly from the content of their earlier conversation.
When the former manager insisted on resolving the dispute through a formal written agreement, Park again cited her worsening mental health and asked to continue discussions. The former manager responded that emotional exchanges alone would not lead to a settlement and warned that talks would be terminated. Shortly afterward, Park is said to have concluded the conversation by suggesting that the matter be resolved through legal proceedings.
Following the collapse of negotiations, Park Na Rae’s representatives explained that she had believed the issue was resolved after their meeting and adjusted her public statement accordingly. They later claimed the terms of the settlement draft were unacceptable from Park’s perspective.
The former manager’s side countered that Park had not offered an apology or admitted wrongdoing, instead repeating emotional appeals, and concluded that she had no genuine intent to settle.
Meanwhile, Seoul’s Gangnam Police Station confirmed on December 9 that it had received criminal complaints filed by two former managers against Park Na Rae, alleging aggravated assault, defamation through false information, and violations of the Information and Communications Network Act. The investigation is ongoing.
