Billybean Music Files 300 million KRW (approx. 204,045 USD) damages suit and injunction against artist Yu Dabin
Billybean Music, led by CEO Keem Billy, has initiated a full legal response against its own artist Yu Dabin.
The label announced that it has filed for an injunction to prohibit Yu Dabin from engaging in entertainment activities, along with a damages lawsuit seeking 300 million KRW (approx. 204,045 USD) for alleged breach of contract. This action is separate from the ongoing criminal complaint involving external party MPMG regarding tampering. The company stated that the civil suit aims to hold the artist accountable for violating the exclusive contract and cooperating with outside forces involved in tampering.
CEO Keem Billy Releases Recordings: “They Asked Us to Bring in Employees From Another Agency”
Through the company’s YouTube channel Billy Show, CEO Keem Billy revealed what he described as unreasonable demands made by Yu Dabin’s side during negotiations.
According to the materials he disclosed, Yu Dabin’s camp allegedly demanded an additional contract payment of 40 million KRW (approx. 27,206 USD) and refused to proceed with performances in venues with fewer than 200 seats, despite being under an active exclusive contract.
The most controversial point was a request for the agency to bring in employees from MPMG. Keem Billy explained that this would involve placing staff from a competing company inside Billybean Music. He stated, “The company attempted to compromise several times, but it eventually became clear that this was not simply a request for better working conditions. It was a coordinated effort, in cooperation with external forces, to intentionally induce a contract breach.”
Damages Claim Includes Contract Violation and Unauthorized Activities
Billybean Music claims that Yu Dabin violated the exclusive contract by acting independently and cooperating with MPMG’s alleged tampering. As a result, the company is seeking 300 million KRW (approx. 204,045 USD) in damages and is also requesting the return of profits generated during the period of alleged contract violation.
CEO Keem Billy stated, “Yu Dabin is still an artist under a valid exclusive contract with Billybean Music. This lawsuit is not only about recovering significant financial losses but about sending a strong message to the industry that musicians who break trust and cooperate with tampering attempts will face serious consequences.”
“Zero Tolerance for Tampering That Threatens the K Content Ecosystem”
The label’s legal representative stated that the situation represents a typical case of tampering that harms the development of the entertainment industry. The representative added that they intend to pursue all legal measures to protect the rights of the agency that discovered and invested in the artist.
As tampering issues continue to emerge throughout the entertainment sector, there are growing calls for government bodies such as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency to impose stronger penalties on agencies and artists involved in unfair practices. With Billybean Music taking firm legal action to defend its contractual rights, the industry is now closely watching the progression of this escalating conflict.
