Controversy has arisen after a Chinese influencer was placed in the spotlight as a de facto “main figure” during BLACKPINK ROSÉ’s pop-up store event held in Chengdu, China.
According to a report by Malaysian entertainment outlet Hype on December 15 (local time), influencer Daisy was invited to the closing event of ROSÉ’s official pop-up store held earlier this month. The pop-up store was an official event centered around the sale of ROSÉ’s merchandise and themed photo zones.
However, backlash emerged when the on-site host introduced Daisy in a manner that made her appear like the main figure of the event. Daisy was later seen taking photos with fans and even signing ROSÉ’s official merchandise. The controversy intensified further as Daisy wore an outfit similar to the style ROSÉ is known for favoring.
Some fans criticized the situation, saying “her appearance and the overall presentation strongly reminded us of ROSÉ” and “the roles of host and guest were completely reversed at the pop-up store.” As the controversy spread online, Daisy released a statement via her social media.
Daisy said, “After seeing the controversy following the event, I felt an explanation was necessary.” She explained that she attended the event at the invitation of the shopping mall and that all proceedings were conducted according to methods discussed in advance with the organizers. She added, “All of my actions were intended to promote ROSÉ, and I did not receive any financial compensation.”
She continued, “I fully understand that ROSÉ and her fans should always be at the center,” and added, “If any part of my actions came across as inappropriate, I reflect on that and will act more carefully in the future.”
Despite the apology, criticism from international fans has continued. Many have responded by saying “being a fan and imitation are clearly different” and “it felt more like an attempt to draw personal attention rather than promote ROSÉ,” indicating that negative sentiment has yet to subside.
