Singer BoA and SM Entertainment are standing at a crossroads as her exclusive contract approaches its expiration.
According to the music industry, BoA’s exclusive contract with SM Entertainment is set to conclude on December 31 KST.
Previously, in April of last year, BoA shared with fans, “My contract runs until December 31, 2025. Until then, I will do my very best and stay truly happy as singer BoA. Don’t worry, my beloved Jumping (BoA’s official fandom name).”
As of now, the status of a contract renewal has not been made public. Neither BoA nor SM Entertainment has released an official statement, drawing keen attention to what decision will follow.
BoA debuted in the music industry on August 25, 2000, at the age of 13. Over the past 25 years, she has produced countless hit songs including "Atlantis Princess,", "My Name," "Girls On Top," and "Only One," establishing herself as a pioneer of K-pop. Beyond Korea, she gained explosive popularity in Japan and other regions, earning the title “Asia’s Star.”
To commemorate her 25th debut anniversary, BoA released her 11th full-length album 'Crazier' on August 4. The album not only encapsulated her solidified musical identity but also connected the emotions and shared history she has built with Jumping BoA, her official fan club. She successfully held her fifth solo concert on August 30 and 31 at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul.
BoA also remained active in Japan. Beginning with the release of the single ‘Young & Free’—which she co-wrote and co-composed—on her Japanese debut anniversary, May 30, she followed up with the single ‘Good for U’ on August 11. From September through November, she carried out a Japan tour across Osaka, Fukuoka, and Tokyo.
