TVXQ's U-Know Yunho surprised viewers with a playful “retirement announcement,” declaring that this would be the final time he performs his viral memes.
On the November 14 episode of KBS2’s music talk show 'The Seasons–10CM’s Pat Pat,' artists who pour their hearts into their craft — Yunho, Jaurim, Balming Tiger, and LE SSERAFIM — took the stage. True to his reputation as the “icon of passion,” Yunho captivated the audience with boundless energy.
Reflecting on the unexpected resurgence of his four-year-old track “Thank U,” he shared a bittersweet behind-the-scenes story. “These days, people call me ‘Lesson Uncle',” he said, referencing the song’s viral choreography and meme-worthy moments.
“I originally made the song with a very serious mindset — I wanted the first lesson to feel solemn,” Yunho explained. “But over time, it took on a life of its own. Now I’ve become ‘Lesson Uncle,’ even ‘Lesson Teacher.’ Still, since the song is called ‘Thank U,’ I’m grateful for all the love it has received.”
Host Kwon Jung Yeol chimed in, saying that although Yunho’s personality doesn’t lend itself to mockery, his memes have become endearing fan favorites. He then brought up several viral Yunho memes — including the hugely popular “Changmin-ah, congratulations” moment.
Yunho laughed and said, “Even now, so many people ask me to congratulate them. At this point, I feel like I should hold a retirement ceremony.”
Riding that momentum, Yunho officially declared that his appearance on 10CM’s Petting would serve as the “retirement ceremony” for his most famous memes. As a final send-off, he recreated one of his energetic meme moments for a lucky audience member celebrating their birthday, sending the studio into a frenzy.
“This is the retirement ceremony,” Kwon Jung Yeol affirmed. “This is the last time. Please don’t ask him to do the memes anymore.”
