Super Junior's Kim Heechul revealed that he experienced a decrease in height as a lasting effect of a traffic accident that severely injured his femur.
The revelation came during the 287th episode of KBS Joy’s '20th Century Hit Song,' which aired on October 31 at 8:30 PM. The episode, titled 'Singing Again! Hit Songs by Artists Who Overcame Pain,' highlighted legendary singers who returned to the stage after overcoming significant hardships.
The program counted down songs from 9th to 1st place, sharing touching stories of each artist’s struggles and triumphs, leaving the studio audience deeply moved. Among them,Kim Kyung Ho’s “Heartless” ranked fifth. The rock ballad, famous for its poignant piano melodies, carries a story of the singer battling avascular necrosis of the femoral head while continuing to perform. After a grueling surgery in Japan to repair 21 cartilage connections, he faced a height reduction of 2 cm as a side effect.
Reflecting on his own experience, Kim Heechul shared humorously, “My femur was completely damaged, so I lost some height too. I was originally about 185 cm.” Heechul’s current height is reported to be 176 cm.
Kim Heechul suffered a major traffic accident in 2006, resulting in fractures to his femur and ankle. He underwent surgery to insert seven metal rods and was later classified with a level-4 physical disability.
