SISTAR’s Soyou opens up about her dieting secrets and difficulties with maintaining her weight “I only lost weight because of album promotions”

Soyou has just opened up about her weight loss journey and the struggles she's faced along the way.

On November 27, Soyou posted a new video on her YouTube channel. After going viral multiple times for her weight loss transformation this year, Soyou decided to reveal her dieting secrets to her fans - as well as some of the negative parts of losing so much weight. 

Soyou began by explaining that many of her clothes were now too big to wear, to the extent that she now has to get her pants altered so they'll still fit. She stated that despite the cost of getting alterations done, Soyou believes it will be worth it to get her pants altered "as a sign of commitment to maintaining her current body."

Soyou also revealed her InBody test results, with several shocking revelations. An InBody test is a body composition analysis, which primarily measures body fat levels and muscle mass. Soyou showed that back in July, her InBody results said she'd lost significant muscle mass as well as fat, and the test described her condition as 'weak and thin.' The surprising results motivated Soyou to work out harder and build more muscle, and by October, she had gained muscle mass and lost even more body fat.

Soyou also stated that despite common belief, she actually doesn't prefer being skinny. "I only lost weight because of album promotions for 'PDA.' But I keep losing it...It's an emergency, haha." Soyou explained that initially, she never wanted to weigh below 50 kg (110 lbs), but she unexpectedly found out that she's now 49kg (108 lbs).

She revealed some of her secrets to maintaining her weight loss. Her number one tip? "Consistent workouts, especially cardio." Soyou said she does 3-hour workouts regularly. As to her diet, Soyou made this surprising admission: "I eat everything I crave. I don't have a meal plan." But her secret, she explained, is controlling her meal portion sizes and only eating 1-2 meals a day. "I keep my dinners light, and focus on eating breakfast and lunch."

Soyou doesn't believe in cheat days, and said it's the main reason people fail at dieting. "You get an explosion of appetite [during cheat days] because while dieting, the food is always the same. The moment a cheat day existed, I used to completely let myself go. That's why now, I just eat whatever I want, but make sure to stop when my hunger is satisfied."

Overall, Soyou says the side effects of losing weight are good, but sometimes scary. "These days, I get dizzy a lot, and my orthostatic hypotension has gotten really bad. That's why it's important to take supplements and eat a lot of healthy food."
