Amid the devastating high-rise fire in Hong Kong, the '2025 MAMA Awards,' scheduled for November 28 and 29 in the city, has decided that all presenters must wear memorial ribbons on stage.
According to industry officials, the '2025 MAMA Awards' informed participating artists before the ceremony that “all presenters are required to wear memorial ribbons, which will be distributed on site.”
Earlier in the day, presenters who asked about the ribbons were initially told that wearing them was optional. Organizers stated, “There is no issue with wearing a ribbon if the artist wishes to do so. If you need ribbon materials, please contact the production team.” However, after receiving a wave of complaints and concerned inquiries, the awards committee reversed its stance and confirmed that all presenters would wear the ribbons. Staff members will distribute them directly at the venue.
This year’s presenter lineup includes: Go Yoon Jung, Noh Sang Hyun, Roh Yoon Seo, Park Hyung Sik, Shin Seung Hun, Shin Ye Eun, Shin Hyun Ji, Arden Cho, Ahn Eun Jin, Ahn Hyo Seop, Lee Kwang Soo, Lee Do Hyun, Lee Soo Hyuk, Lee Jun Young, Lee Jun Hyuk, Im Si Wan, Jang Do Yeon, Jeon Yeo Been, Jo Se Ho, Jo Yu Ri, Cho Han Gyeol, Joo Ji Hoon, Cha Joo Young, Choi Dae Hoon, and Hyeri (listed in alphabetical order). Hong Kong-born stars Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh, who were originally slated to present, will no longer attend due to the recent disaster.
The fire occurred at around 2 p.m. on November 26 at Wang Fuk Court, a residential high-rise complex in Tai Po in northern Hong Kong. According to China’s Xinhua News Agency, the death toll had risen to 128 people as of 5 p.m. on November 28, and the number continues to increase.
In response, the '2025 MAMA Awards' held an emergency meeting to reassess the situation. Given various logistical constraints, organizers ultimately decided to proceed with the event but with several major adjustments. The red carpet and the traditional full cast finale stages for both nights have been cancelled. The ceremony will instead be conducted with a focus on comfort and remembrance.
The show’s organizers also announced plans to donate proceeds from the ceremony, and major global K-pop agencies and artists have begun making donations as well to support relief efforts.
