The Blue Dragon Film Awards, the most prestigious awards ceremony in the South Korean film industry, has announced the final nominees after a highly competitive selection process.
On October 21, the 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards confirmed the nominees in each category based on votes from industry experts and the first round of public online voting, which took place from October 1 to 19.
The announcement covered 15 categories, excluding the Most Popular Film Award and the Chungjungone Popular Star Award. The categories include Best Film, Best Director, Best New Director, Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best New Actor and Actress, Cinematography/ Lighting, Screenplay, Music, Art Director, Editing, and Technical Achievement.
For this year's Best Film Category, five titles have been nominated: 'No Other Choice,' 'The Ugly,' 'My Daughter Is a Zombie,' 'The Old Woman With The Knife,' and 'Harbin.' This year's lineup has drawn attention for featuring films that excel in both artistic merit and audience appeal, making the final results highly anticipated.
Park Chan Wook's 'No Other Choice' leads the nominations with 12 nods, showcasing its buzz and critical acclaim. Following closely, 'The Ugly' received 10 nominations, 'Harbin' earned 8, and both 'My Daughter is a Zombie' and 'Hi-Five' secured 6 nominations each.
Additionally, the nominations reflect a wide spectrum of Korean cinema this year, including works recognized for fresh approaches and distinctive direction. 'Uprising' and 'The Old Woman With The Knife' received 5 nominations each, while 'Noise' and 'The Match' earned 3. Films such as '3670,' 'Dark Nuns,' 'A Normal Family,' 'Idiot Girls and School Ghost: School Anniversary,' 'Pretty Crazy,' and 'Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy' each received 2 nominations.
Public voting to determine the winners began on October 21 via the mobile app CelebChamp. Fans can vote in 16 categories, including Best Film, Best Director, Best New Director, Best Actor and Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best New Actor and Actress, Cinematography/Lighting, Screenplay, Music, Art Direction, Editing, Technical Achievement, and the Chungjungone Popular Star Award. Votes cast through the CelebChamp app carry equal weight with those of the professional judging panel.
The 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards ceremony will be held on November 19 at KBS Hall in Yeouido and will be broadcast live on KBS2.
