Hwang Ha Na, the former fiancée of singer Park Yoochun who is currently on an Interpol red notice, is reportedly living in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The area has been placed under a “special travel advisory” by South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On October 15, several online communities shared reports claiming that Hwang has been continuing her fugitive life in Cambodia, where a number of kidnapping and confinement cases targeting South Koreans have recently taken place.
According to reports by IYSS and other media outlets in June, Hwang relocated to a luxury mixed-use apartment in Phnom Penh after staying in Thailand. Locals allege that she has been maintaining social connections with members of Thailand’s high society and is currently living with a man identified as “Mr. A,” who comes from a wealthy background. Witnesses also claim that she has frequently attended parties with nightlife industry figures.
Local sources have made further allegations that Hwang may be involved in sex work and drug distribution. One informant claimed that “she invited acquaintances from Korea and encouraged them to engage in prostitution with local men,” while another alleged that “she has been helping Cambodian tycoons launder money.”
Meanwhile, speculation surrounding former Big Bang member Seungri’s alleged connections to Cambodia’s so-called “Prince District,” a known crime hub, has drawn renewed attention. His recent activities in the country appear to coincide with Hwang’s presence there. A resurfaced video of Seungri proclaiming, “Cambodia is not dangerous; it is the best country in Asia,” during a local event has also sparked online controversy.
Although Cambodia is famous for its world-class travel destinations such as Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, and Tonlé Sap Lake, it has recently become a center of illegal gambling, investment fraud, and kidnapping-related cybercrime. According to South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 330 cases of South Korean nationals being kidnapped were reported between January and August 2024, representing a 50 percent increase from the previous year. The number of victims of employment scams has also tripled, prompting the government to issue a special travel advisory for the Phnom Penh area.
Hwang Ha Na first became known to the public as the fiancée of singer and actor Park Yoochun. The couple announced their engagement in 2017 but later broke it off after Hwang was accused of drug use. Park was subsequently arrested on similar charges.
After receiving a suspended sentence for drug use in 2019, Hwang was later convicted again for repeated offenses. In September 2023, she was reportedly investigated alongside a nightclub manager surnamed Kim, who was known for blackmailing the late actor Lee Sun Gyun. While under investigation, Hwang fled to Thailand and has remained a fugitive ever since.
Authorities have reportedly requested Interpol cooperation and consular assistance from local embassies in an effort to locate and apprehend her.
