A breast cancer awareness campaign organized by a leading South Korean women’s fashion magazine has recently sparked controversy, but actress Park Eun Bin drew attention for leaving the event early.
On October 15, Park Eun Bin interacted with her fans via a live broadcast on social media. Speaking from inside her car, she smiled and said, “I’m on my way home quickly after finishing the W event.” Reflecting on the event, she added, “It feels like it’s almost my first time attending this kind of event. It was nice to see,” giving a thumbs-up and sighing in relief, “I’m off now. Phew.”
Describing the atmosphere, she noted, “Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I just got a little taste of the vibe and then headed home.”
She also praised herself lightly, saying, “I think I worked hard today. Give me some credit,” as she gently patted her head. After learning that one of her fans was working late, she laughed and remarked, “It would have been great if I had stayed until the end…”
The remarks come amid online criticism surrounding the 20th 'Love Your W' breast cancer awareness charity event, held on October 14 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Posts on social media and various online communities questioned the event’s approach and messaging.
W Korea, the Korean licensee of the American fashion magazine W (first published in 1972), has hosted its annual 'Love Your W' campaign since 2006 to promote breast cancer awareness and early detection among women. This year’s 20th-anniversary event drew particular attention due to a star-studded guest list, including BTS members RM, V, and j-hope, as well as acclaimed actresses Go Hyun Jung and Lee Young Ae.
However, some netizens criticized the event after it concluded, arguing that the party-like atmosphere and the celebrities’ revealing outfits distracted from the intended purpose of promoting breast cancer awareness.
