BTS member Jin has announced his final fan concert of the year, but some local accommodations have stirred controversy by canceling existing bookings and hiking their prices.
On October 2, Jin shared on the fan platform Weverse that he would hold encore solo fan concerts on October 31 and November 1 at Incheon Munhak Stadium in Michuhol-gu, Incheon.
Following the announcement, reports emerged that accommodation prices near the stadium had skyrocketed. One fan revealed on an online community, “My confirmed booking was suddenly canceled over the phone because the site said the price was wrong,” adding, “During holiday periods, prices usually peak at 80,000 KRW (approximately 57 USD), but they hiked it to 1,075,000 KRW (approximately 765 USD).” Accompanying photos showed that the nightly rate for the concert dates had risen to around 900,000 KRW (approximately 640 USD).
Netizens pointed out that such sharp increases in accommodation costs are a common reaction following popular event announcements. Fans planning to travel from afar expressed frustration over what they saw as excessive price gouging.
Earlier this year, Jin toured nine cities across Japan, the U.S., and Europe, performing 18 shows since starting in Goyang in June, delighting fans worldwide.
