Actor Lee Jung Jae has made history as the first Korean to receive the Chaplin Award Asia, announced on October 3 in Singapore.
According to the organizers, Lee was recognized for his enduring and positive influence on Asian cinema through works that resonate with audiences worldwide. Upon receiving the honor, Lee said, “It’s nerve-wracking and humbling to receive an award in the name of Charlie Chaplin, a revered filmmaker, artist, and creative icon. I hope to use this recognition to have a positive impact as an Asian filmmaker.”
The Chaplin Award is one of the most prestigious lifetime achievement honors in the film industry, presented annually by the Film at Lincoln Center (FLC) in New York. Since introducing the Asia category in 2018, recipients have included renowned Chinese-speaking actors and directors such as Tony Leung, Zhang Yimou, and Brigitte Lin.
Lee, who recently concluded the global hit series 'Squid Game,' is set to return to the small screen next month with the tvN drama 'Nice to Not Meet You.'
