Actor Yoo Ah In, who was recently convicted on drug-related charges, has made his first public appearance just two months after receiving a suspended sentence.
On Septmeber 3, DJ Peggy Gou shared photos on social media featuring herself alongside director Bong Joon Ho and Yoo Ah In. In the picture, Bong is seen holding Peggy Gou’s arms with both hands, while Yoo looks on with a wide smile. The post has since been deleted.
Yoo Ah In faced trial for habitual use of medical anesthetics, including propofol, midazolam, ketamine, and remimazolam. From September 2020 to March 2022, he was accused of receiving these substances 181 times under the guise of sedation for cosmetic procedures at hospitals in Seoul.
In addition, between May 2021 and August 2023, he was charged with illegally obtaining more than 1,100 sleeping pills prescribed under another person’s name on 44 occasions. Yoo Ah In also faced charges of smoking marijuana in the United States in January last year with acquaintances, and encouraging others to smoke.
In September 2023, a lower court sentenced him to one year in prison, leading to his immediate detention. However, in February this year, an appellate court reduced the sentence to one year in prison with a two-year suspension, citing Yoo Ah In’s long struggle with sleep disorders and depression, as well as his reflection during five months of detention.
The ruling was upheld by the Supreme Court in July, finalizing Yoo Ah In’s suspended sentence.
