On September 4, the YouTube channel Jaefriends released a video titled 'Never Meet Your Heroes? Come Meet a Successful Fan!.'
In the video, guest Sunmi revealed that she had been a fan of Kim Jaejoong since his days with TVXQ, showing visible nervousness during their meeting. She admitted, “I didn’t even get a proper look at his face because I didn’t know when I would have the chance,” and marveled, “He debuted when I was in fourth grade, but he looks just the same as back then.”
Sunmi also shared, “I dreamed of becoming a singer after watching the brothers and BoA, which is why I went to the SM audition.” Kim Jaejoong confirmed, “I knew. You were in episode 9, I was in episode 2,” revealing that both of them had participated in SM Entertainment’s 'Jjang Contest,' a competition for outstanding visuals.
Curious, Kim Jaejoong asked, “Then why did you end up going to JYP?” Sunmi explained, “I auditioned for SM and even placed second in the visuals category. I was really looking forward to debuting with SM, but I never heard back. Meanwhile, JYP contacted me. The casting director who used to work at SM moved to JYP and offered me an audition.”
Kim Jaejoong sympathized, saying, “Before signing a contract, your own choice is the most important. If you hadn’t debuted with Wonder Girls, you might have debuted with Girls' Generation.”
Sunmi added, “What I’m really thankful for is that after my SM audition, the casting directors knew I was a fan of you brothers, so they even sent signed CDs to me in Gyeongju.”
