On the morning of September 5, a press conference for the Netflix original series 'You and Everything Else' was held at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel in Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul.
Director Jo Young Min, along with actors Kim Go Eun and Park Ji Hyun, attended the event. 'You and Everything Else' tells the story of two friends, Eun Jung and Sang Yeon, whose lives are intertwined over the years as they admire, envy, and even resent each other in equal measure.
Reflecting on her scenes portraying the characters in their teens and twenties, Kim Go Eun shared, "Because I was 21, I felt that I still carried the energy and atmosphere of my teenage years, so I gained weight for the role. Looking back at my younger self, my cheeks were a bit chubby, so I prepared by putting on some weight."
Meanwhile, Park Ji Hyun, who plays Sang Yeon and has sometimes been perceived as cold, revealed, "I actually lost weight for the role." Kim Go Eun quickly responded, "You look amazing. I was completely captivated by Ji Hyun." Park Ji Hyun then complimented Kim Go Eun’s portrayal of Eun Jung in her teens, saying, "Go Eun sister was just so lovely," and the two exchanged warm words on set.
Park Ji Hyun also joked about the younger versions of her character, saying, "I thought I would be playing the middle school version too. But during the reading, a child actor handled the elementary and middle school scenes, and I felt I may have overestimated myself," drawing laughter from attendees.
Kim Go Eun added, "After the script reading, even at the wrap-up party, Ji Hyun kept asking the director why a child actor was used. That was before we were close, and I remember thinking, 'Do you really need to ask this?'"
When asked if they have ever felt jealousy or envy like their characters, Park Ji Hyun replied, "I have always admired Go Eun sister so much that I have never really felt jealousy, only admiration."
She continued, "Jealousy and admiration are similar yet different feelings. I acknowledged my admiration and tried to follow her example. By observing and learning, I thought maybe I could become like her someday. She guided me a lot. I respect and love her deeply, both as a senior and as a colleague."
Kim Go Eun shyly responded, "We are not even that far apart in age." Park Ji Hyun reassured her, "Age does not matter." Kim Go Eun then added, "I can feel how much Ji Hyun likes me. It almost feels too much, but I am grateful."
She also humorously mentioned, "Speaking of envy, sometimes I get puffy when tired, but Ji Hyun does not. While filming together, my face would swell between takes, but hers did not at all. I could not help but feel a little envious."
'You and Everything Else,' starring Kim Go Eun and Park Ji Hyun, is set to premiere on Netflix on September 12.
