Bang Chan (birth name Christopher Chan Bang), leader of Stray Kids, is taking action over deepfake videos that spread on social media and included explicit and racist content. He says the clips are fake and harmful to his reputation and well-being.

In the United States, a federal judge in California approved his request on Sept. 5, 2025 PT, allowing him to ask X (formerly Twitter) for basic information that can point to who runs the accounts that uploaded the videos. The filing moved quickly: Bang Chan submitted his application on Sept. 1, 2025 PT, and teammate Felix filed a similar request on Sept. 3, 2025 PT. Both were approved on Sept. 5, 2025 PT.

According to court papers, two X accounts used AI to paste Bang Chan’s face onto clips and make it look as if he said obscene and racist things. Bang Chan states he never agreed to any of this and that the posts caused stress and hurt him as a singer. “The videos are fake. I did not agree to their creation or posting,” his side says.

With the court’s approval in place, Bang Chan can send X a formal request limited to details needed to identify the account owners—such as sign-up email, registered phone number, and login IP records. If X shares that data, it can be used in Korea to name the defendants and move his civil defamation case forward at the Seoul Eastern District Court. Felix is pursuing a separate case against different anonymous users.

Handling the Korean side is attorney Jeong Kyung Seok of Riu Law Firm. Jeong Kyung Seok is known for previously tracking down the operator of the cyber rumor creator YouTube channel ‘Taldeok Camp’ and pushing related cases that led—after appeal—to a damages judgment of about USD 38,000, along with measures to secure payment. That experience is now being cited as useful background for these cases.

The approvals mean both artists have a clear path to try to identify the people behind the accounts, serve them in Korea, and argue their claims in court.
